DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe - Marina Bay Sands

ABBEY: Wilma gave me a treat to celebrate the day we became BF/GF. It was on the DC Comics Cafe at the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Since it was all for royalty, the prices soared up compared to cafes offering the same items. Setting it aside, the experience is unique. The child in me is shouting for excitement. Sorry Batman, but Superman is my favorite.

I got a burger with nachos and iced chococinno. I liked the patty as it reminds me of the fillings of "lumpiang shanghai" we have back in Philippines. The bun has Superman's emblem as well as the drink. Nothing much difference from other Western restaurant. Beside the cafe are the novelty items for sale.

From time to time it is ok to splurge on those treats. :)

WILL: We are still celebrating our boyfriend/girlfriend anniversary even we are married. Are we considered crazy to do that? Haha.

I treated Abbey at DC Comics Cafe located just above at ice skating rink of Marina Bay Sands. Because of the free lunch in the office, I am very full and I cannot take another solid food. I am just there to sip a hot cup of tea and linger to the glorious face of my husband.

The food was served and my Abbey's face turned back to childhood. He relentlessly tell tales why he chose Superman rather than Batman. So, from that, you know what he ordered right? He ordered Superman's line of food.

I enjoyed the restaurant's very childish ambiance. Some of the patrons wore their fave characters' shirt while dining in there..clever.

Are we going back in there? Yep! I think so!

NOM - Bistro & Bakery

ABBEY: I first saw the rainbow cake on 9GAG. I thought of doing that but got no time to do it. Doing that is a feat as it will take time to bake seven different colors of cake and then layer them. Grace wanted to have a piece of that cake and planned to have it at NOM (No Other Meaning) Bistro. It is at Macpherson Community Club. The restaurant offers burgers, pasta, pizza, coffees, teas, mocktails and cakes.

For 14.9SGD I had the Ultimate NOM burger (juicy beef patty, slice of tomato, lettuce and sunny side up egg in between buns with NOM's name on it). The burger came with serving of fries. Great dinner catching up with friends.

WILL: We got an invitation from Abbey's colleague to go to Macpherson to checkout one of the most talked about cafe due to their rainbow cakes. We did not turn down this opportunity for us to taste that cake and to catch-up with friends.

We came late, sorry, and our ordered is already on the table waiting for us. Do not worry, it didn't get cold. I went for its Earth Burger. Oh my gosh! I do not know what they put on portobello mushroom that it tastes like beef. Hmmm. Well I enjoyed every bite of it and most specially the cake.

Their rainbow cake have so many flavors but I went for Salted Caramel. It is not that sweet and it does not need to be flushed down by a coffee or tea.

Nice and peaceful ambiance and their staffs are ever attentive and friendly! Check this out guys, click here for their menu. :)

Dinner at Wheeler's Yard

ABBEY: We planned on meeting my former colleague, Arnold but due to some office work he was not able to come. So Wilma came up with something and asked me and Grace to go to Wheeler's Yard at Lor Ampas (one-bus ride -139 from Toa Payoh bus interchange). Grace was delighted to hear that as she is a cyclist.

The ambiance is like a warehouse you see in movies where the bad guys hide their kidnap victims. But instead of tension and fear, the cafe was filled with all-smiling and attentive staffs. It was warm and relaxing.

I got their spring chicken. It took time to be served. But, oh boy, when it was served, it was aromatic and delicious. Since it was baked, the fat is almost gone leaving the skin crispy. The meat can easily be removed from the bones. It came with creamy mash potatoes and purple cabbage coleslaw. The meals starts from 15sgd.

Other half of the place is for the bikes and accessories that are for sale.

WILL: Wheeler's Cafe is one of the must visit cafes here in Singapore. And because Grace is a cyclist, I thought of going in here with her for some dinner.

We were amazed my the interior designing of the place. It is very clever for bicycle shop to put a cafe beside. We sat in front of the long table that have bicycles displayed on it.

I went for Steak Hanger ($19.90). The meat is quite tough to chew. But the taste complements well with mushroom sauce. Abbey and I was delighted to their mashed potato, it is creamy.

Next time? ...

Cafe Mondo at Orchard Central

ABBEY: After our sumptuous dinner, our bodies are going for shutdown. But still we're not at home, we're in a mall. So we went to Cafe Mondo.

I was about to order their signature hot chocolate but their affogato entry caught my eye. For 7.5sgd I got a shot of espresso with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Yes it was small but it gave me a jolt. The vanilla ice cream is smooth and creamy. Half of it I melted with the espresso; instant ice-creamed coffee :)

They also serve pasta, cakes, chilled beverages and tea.

WILL: Its a waste of time, money and experience if you do not try the varieties of cafes here in Singapore. So after our fulfilling meal at Tony Roma's we paved our way to Cafe Mondo for a dose of hot drinks.

It is one of your unusual cafes that you can find at the stretch of Orchard Road. It was exactly located at Orchard Central 2nd floor.

Since my throat is shouting for me to take liquid in and my brain wars me that taking anything in to my stomach will make me vomit and that is the reason I asked for Calming Your Tummy tea.

When I soaked the teabag the water turns to green then after few seconds turned to brown. Sip by sip my tummy pacifies. Love the minty taste and soothing effect.

Delight yourself and check it this out cafe that serves coffee, tea and ice cream in one roof :)

Pies & Coffee (Rochester Mall Branch)

ABBEY: If you want to relax by sound of rustling water and have snack as well, try to visit Pies and Coffees at Rochester Mall. The promo we got is for just S$24, you can have 2 pies with drinks. Usual price is around S$12 for pie only.

I had Guinness Beef Pie. This comes with a little bit of "greens" for a side salad. The pie crust is thin, which is good because the fillings can really fill you up. :) It is delicious and full of flavour.

The place can also be used as place of study. Reward yourself with a snack after you're done with your essay.

WILL: How about you've went to two clinics and found out that the doctors were all out for vacation? Husband and I just laughed for that misfits. Haha! Before our third hunt we decided to eat first at Pies and Coffees located at Rochester Park.

Calming sound of waterfalls greeted us. Abbey and I decided to go for al fresco dining for us to linger with a very relaxing sound of dropping water.

I have Chicken Mushroom and Iced English Breakfast Tea. Well, I am so thankful that the meal comes with mashed potato and salad. Their mashed potato is very outstanding. The texture is smooth and cheesy.

On my pie, actually I do not know if i will be happy that the filling is more than I expected or sad because of a thin crust of the pie. Haha. The chicken tomato filling blends nicely to the perfect pie crust. It so big that I asked my husband to eat the remaining quarter of it.

It is indeed a perfect place for people to gather. Perfect place and perfect food.

dr. Café Coffee Singapore at The Star Vista - $2 Frappe Deal

ABBEY: After a sumptuous snack at Boston Seafood Shack, we went to Dr. Cafe on their branch at Star Vista Mall to get their 2SGD frappe.

I got the mocha frappe. I really can't distinguished the difference with other cafe but kudos for their offer of lower price. We had our frappes as we catch up with our friends.

WILL: dr. Café is making a big noise by having a series of promotions. The first deal is their 50% off on their hot coffees, cakes and sandwiches, Now they treat all their “facebook likers” a $2 frappe. Gosh! Abbey and I are so blessed that we got an this for free!!! Thanks Chat!

I ordered for caramel frappe. I need a sweet dose of drink that time to wash away the fish and chips taste. Oh, we went at dr. Café Star Vista branch just after our  dine-in at Boston Seafood Shack. The taste, the taste, the taste! So sweet and delicious. Some frappe is just cold and very bland.. waste of money.

Thanks dr. Café, Till next great deals!

Coffeemin - Singapore's Time Cafe

ABBEY: From time to time, it would be nice to not go directly home after a day's work. Maybe go to a place with a homey ambiance; as they say a home away from home.

We visited Coffeemin at Clarke Quay. It is a per-hour coffee shop. For 6 SGD an hour, you can enjoy unlimited coffee, sodas, and biscuits. Just present your IC or pay 30SGD which is refundable.

Upon arrival, we sat down on the couch and started to play Xbox. Oh my, we don't know how to load a game :) After giving up for not knowing what would be the goal of the game we chose, we took over the billiard table. 8-ball? Grace won. 9-ball, I got a bad shot while putting the last ball in the corner pocket. It was fun. Short chit-chat on what are our plans in the future while munching on butter cookies and then we left.

I'll tell you now, an hour is very short to spend time with your friend and loved ones.

WILL: Aren’t you tired of your usual coffee place? Or you just want to take a sip of unlimited coffee with your friends? Or you just want to spend an hour talking with all of your friends but your home cannot accommodate them all? Coffeeminion is a great place for you to check out.

How I came up to this place? While browsing the Groupon and Deal.Com.Sg I saw a half priced of this. I got a 3 vouchers for $3.00 each per hour. Imagine, you can have your unlimited cappuccino / latte / milo / soda / cookies + play your favourite board games, billiards, books/magazines and Xbox games. Good deal right?

After office, Abbey, Grace and I went there to check them out. The place is serene. There we merrily drank our dose of caffeine, played nine balls, and talked.. talked.. and talked. I love this place. Now me and my colleagues are scheduling a visit in their Suntec City branch.

Thanks Coffemin for this very good homey concept. Oh, please do check out their schedule because they were always hired for private function.

dr. Café Coffee Singapore

ABBEY: We visited Dr. Cafe's branch at City Link Mall when we met my college friend, Ryan.

The thing liked the most is their Dome Chocolate cake. Since it was from the fridge, the twist is that they served it in a lukewarm plate which made the chocolate frosting to melt. The flavor is rich and texture is smooth. Pair it with coffee-of-the-day and you're in for a treat.

Three slices of cake and three drinks all for 18sgd.

WILL: Dr. Cafe is all over Singapore and I apologize for not visiting them until last 29th of August.

Abbey and I met one of his blockmate and after dinner at Asian Kitchen we went directly to Dr. Cafe for a dose of caffeine.

Like a child, I ordered 3 cakes. Yes, three. They have this 50% promotion that time and yes I abused that entitlement. I ordered Dome Cake, Blueberry Cheesecake, and Oreo Cheesecake.

I am so amused when their chocolate cake touched my mouth. So warm and a not-so-sweet chocolate enticed me to dig in for more. Their blueberry cheesecake is awesome. There is something that is ewww to the Oreo Cheesecake, not recommended!

Go and try their Dome Cake. They have also Plaza Singapura and Star Vista branch.

GRUB - Café, Breakfast & Brunch Restaurant at Bishan Park Singapore

ABBEY: Grub is one of the restaurant that gives you a relaxing view. Set inside Bishan Park, you will get refreshed with the lush greens in the pond and trees.

Be patient as there will be lot of people like you who wants to taste their food. Once there, no need to queue. Just leave your number and they will call you once your table is ready. Enjoy walking on the park as you wait. I got their Grub Cheeseburger for 13 SGD along with fries. We take away the order as I needed some sleep after a night's shift.

The burgers are heavy which means they're big. At home, we confirmed it. They're huge. The taste? The patty is delicious, smells good and flavourful. Nothing special about the fries but a good partner to the burger.

WILL: Grub set a giveaway on their facebook page last 26th of July. This is for the lucky 20 people to taste for free their 49thSingapore’s birthday offering.. the special edition of Chilli Crabcake Burger. Yes! Abbey is lucky and blessed! He won! Due to hectic schedule, we went there on the last day to claim the voucher, 10th of August, Sunday. Gosh, the place was full and people keep on coming to key-in their handphone number to be queued. Then we decided to take-away our orders. After 25minutes, we got on our hand burgers and fries, then we headed back home.

We ate it for our late dinner, around 10PM. We re-heat it but the freshness of crabcake is still intact. They say it is spicy, but not for me! Haha! Maybe they did not put enough chilli sauce to my sweet crab burger. But the taste is still awesome.

I am really quite frustrated to myself why we never went there early to avoid the long queue. Their site is very relaxing. A very good way to spend Sunday morning.

Thanks Grub! We will definitely grab again some bites on your shop!

Privé Café - All Day Breakfast at Keppel Island

ABBEY: Care to have a breakfast beside a marina? You must try Privé cafe. We went there during the fourth day of my sister's visit. It would be advisable to hail a cab as there's no bus service going there. Or you can jog as part of your morning routine.

We sat on a table under a tree and the morning sea breeze greeted us. We tried their Ultimate Brekkie (chicken frankfurter, eggs, bacon, roasted tomato, mushrooms, and toast) as well as their eggs benedict which I liked the most. The poached eggs are creamy and well complemented by the sauce.

You can take snaps with the yachts. It is refreshing while eating delicious food, hearing the sound of water and having a good ambiance. All day breakfast price start from 12-20 sgd.

WILL: This is highly recommended place by our friend blogger Nadine and by a magazine (sorry forgot where I read it). When my in-laws visited us here in Singapore,  we finally got the chance to check this Privé Cafe.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it will be more enlightening if you will do it in a very nice place. So before we start the final day of their tour here, we headed to Keppel Bay. We hailed a cab and once we alighted, parked yachts welcomed us.

Privé Cafe was jam packed. A very nice sight to see families spending a Sunday morning breakfast.

If you're stomach is grumbling and you can't handle the emptiness of it, this place is not for you. It took them around 30mins to serve our food. I got the pancake, why? To check if the magazine I have read that Privè serves one of the best pancake here in Singapore. Well, its true! Bite after bite I was convinced. Soft yet firm.

Like my friend and the magazine, I will recommend this cafe. :)

Cali "Cafe & Bar" - American Buffet Breakfast (Weekend)

ABBEY: Cali Cafe is located at Rochester Park - few minutes away from Buona Vista MRT station. Right after my night shift I went there to have buffet breakfast with Wilma, Ate Sol, and Sam.

It is a small place but is warm got a homey feel. I got chicken franks, spring rolls, olio pasta as well as sunny side up and scrambled egg. As usual I ate a lot of bacon. I liked the ones that is in the bottom of the warmer. They're crispy and has less fat.

Before going there we confirmed that the price is less than 12.90sgd; we even checked for the dates. But unfortunately, as per the staff the promo is already over. The experience is good but would have been better if we got discounts :)

WILL: We were with Sam and my sister Ate Sol when we visited the Cali Cafe. We love buffets and we really think that we can save more on that rather than ordering ala-carte.

Cali Cafe and Bar posted a promotion of $12.90 nett for an American Breakfast Buffet. Why not grabbed the chance when it is just near at our home?

Around 7am we were already there. We ate as if no sun will rise on us for tomorrow. Haha. Overflowing bread, cheese, crispy bacon, sausages, and my favorite...their scrambled egg. We stay there for 3 hours. Eat-rest-eat-rest, haha! Even it is Sunday, the place is so
serene and relaxing.

When Abbey went to the counter for payment. The boy behind the counter told us that it costs $20.00. He is not aware of the promotion posted in their facebook page. Too bad! But hey, bring your children here. Child eats for free. :)

Till next time Cali Cafe.
