SBCD Korean Rice House Suntec Review: The Affordable Korean Meal That Surprised Me

ABBEY: I’ve always been curious about SBCD Korean Tofu House at Suntec City. Every time I pass by, it’s packed with diners no matter the hour, which made me wonder what keeps people coming back. So one evening, I finally gave in and went there for dinner.

I ordered the Pork Bulgogi, and it instantly hit the spot—it’s that familiar Korean flavor I’ve been craving. Instead of rice, I went for spicy noodles, and I’m glad I did. The dish came with tender pork, kimchi, tofu, egg, and pork dumpling, all mixed together in a bowl. It reminded me of those Korean 2x spicy noodles, but with a hearty twist.

The noodles were perfectly al dente, and every component complemented the others beautifully. With teary eyes from the spice yet a happy heart, I finished every bite. It was satisfying, comforting, and full of flavor. I’ll definitely be coming back for more.

WILL: Ever find yourself wondering what to eat or where to eat? Abbey and I don’t usually eat out often, yet even we sometimes face this dilemma. Imagine those who rarely cook at home! Well, this Korean spot at Suntec City left quite an impression on me.

For less than SGD 15, the Pork Bulgogi Rice set comes with perfectly spiced sticky rice and a refreshing yogurt drink—simple, affordable, yet surprisingly fulfilling. Unlike some restaurants that overload dishes with spice to appear “authentic,” here the flavors are thoughtfully composed. I left the stall with a full stomach and a sense of calm, amazed at how a meal can bring such quiet satisfaction.

A quick tip: dinner time is always busy, so plan to arrive early. But trust me, it’s worth it.

Would you like to try this hidden gem at Suntec City?

$1.90 Bowls?! Kuan Zhai Wan Wan Xiang at Changi City Point — Cheapest Comfort Food You’ll Ever Find!

ABBEY: While exploring Changi City Point, we stumbled upon a Chinese eatery called Kuan Zhai Wan Wan Xiang. And it was quite an unexpected find.

The place operates in a simple, canteen-style setup, somewhat like IKEA’s self-service food hall. You grab a tray, queue up, and choose from a variety of small dishes neatly displayed in mini bowls. It’s quick, casual, and perfect if you love trying a bit of everything.

We picked a few favorites: braised pork with preserved vegetables, mapo tofu, xiao long bao, and shredded chicken noodles. Each order comes with free-flow rice or porridge, which is definitely a plus if you love generous portions.

The mapo tofu stood out for me. It had that authentic Sichuan-style balance of spice and numbing heat from the peppercorns. I actually went for three bowls of rice just to go with it! The braised pork was another highlight, tender and flavorful with just the right amount of savory sweetness.

If there’s one thing I’d suggest, it’s to turn up the steam a little; some of the dishes could be warmer. But overall, it’s a satisfying and affordable meal, with prices ranging from SGD 1.90 to SGD 5.90 per item.

Kuan Zhai Wan Wan Xiang is a great spot if you’re in the East of Singapore and craving authentic, comforting Chinese food without breaking the bank.

$1.90 Bowls at Kuan Zhai Wan Wan Xiang – Changi City Point’s Most Affordable Comfort Food!

WILL: What made me walk straight into this restaurant? The elevated hawker vibe, the super clean and inviting look, and—honestly—the screaming amount of food on display. Bowls starting at SGD1.90 and unlimited porridge or rice for SGD1? That alone made me grab a tray!

Self-serve style pa! It brought back full-on secondary school canteen memories, but with way better food.

My Must-Try Picks
-Mapo Tofu (SGD2.90)
The mala sauce is insane. I could finish one whole cup of rice with just the sauce. Sobrang sarap. No regrets!

-Pork with Preserved Vegetable (SGD3.90)
Huge portion—good for sharing. The pork is tender and super worth its price.

Not My Fave
Pork Xiao Long Bao — dry, so skip this one.

If you love rice (like… A LOT), carbs, and comforting Chinese flavors, you’ll walk out of here smiling and food-happy. Perfect for our protein + carb loading days in The Gentle Reset too.

Go try it! You might end up running to Changi City Point like me.

Queic Cheesecake Review + 1827 Clipper Tea: Honest Jewel Changi Food Stop

ABBEY: At last, we finally got to try Quiec by Olivia at Jewel Changi Airport! It took us a while to find it. We actually circled the entire ground floor before realizing it’s located just across the Jewel Changi Airport Lounge.

We ordered a solo serving of the Classic Basque Burnt Cheesecake, and it didn’t disappoint. The texture was rich and creamy, with a good height that made each bite satisfying. There’s a distinct flavor that sets it apart, possibly from the goat cheese used in the recipe, which adds a unique twist to the classic burnt cheesecake. Just a heads-up though, it’s priced a little higher than your average cake slice, but the quality makes it worth a try.

After indulging in dessert, we headed to The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. for some hot beverages. With everything going on lately, I went for their Anti-Stress blend—a soothing mix of rooibos, lemongrass, and chamomile. It has an earthy taste that’s calming and perfect for unwinding. Sometimes, a good cup of tea and a quiet moment are all you need to recharge.

WILL: Jewel Changi isn’t just a tourist magnet with a giant waterfall. For us residents, it’s where we squeeze through the crowd for good food, good tea, and a little cinema time. With so many consistently packed restaurants, Jewel remains one of the easiest places to find something new to love.

Aside our usual favourites—White Restaurant, % Arabica, and Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory—we finally tried the much-hyped Queic by Olivia, known for the “best cheesecake in Singapore.”
We ordered the Classic Basque Burnt ($12.00). My verdict? Not my type. The flour-like, slightly rough texture took away the smooth, melt-in-your-mouth cheesecake moment I wanted. Price is pretty high, texture and taste is a no-go for me.

To recover, we walked to The 1827 Clipper Tea Co. I chose Blissful Berries, expecting a strong sour berry hit. Instead, the flavour turned out soft, mild, and calming. For $5.50, it’s a comforting cup I’d happily buy again—this one goes straight to my “for home” list.

So tell me—what’s your go-to food spot in Changi? And will you check out Queic and 1827 Clipper Tea on your next Jewel run?

Is Morton’s the Best Steakhouse in Singapore — and Is It Worth the Splurge?

ABBEY: We went to Morton’s, The Steakhouse at Mandarin Oriental to celebrate Wilma’s 15 years of living abroad. We arrived right at noon, and after confirming our reservation, we were promptly ushered to our table.

Once we placed our order, the famous onion bread was served along with our wine. The loaf was huge, warm, and so tempting. We couldn’t resist spreading butter on it and enjoying every bite. The wine sat untouched for a while until our ribeye steak and lamb arrived, both cooked medium-well to perfection.

The ribeye was everything I hoped for; rich, juicy, and with that melt-in-your-mouth fat that makes every bite blissful. The lamb had its own character, slightly gamey but in a delicious way, especially when paired with the flavorful gravy, a sip of wine, and side dishes like macaroni and cheese and creamy mashed potatoes.

Morton’s made sure the dining experience was truly special. They surprised us with a portrait and a card, followed by a lemon soufflé. The soufflé was light, velvety, and incredibly good. I couldn’t stop eating even though I was already full from the steak.

Just when we thought our meal was over, the team handed us another onion bread to take home, knowing how much we loved it. It was such a thoughtful gesture that capped off a remarkable lunch. Our tummies were full, and our hearts even fuller.

Is Morton’s the Best Steakhouse in Singapore — and Is It Worth the Splurge?

WILL: Time — the one resource we never get back. And yet, herewe are, quietly celebrating my 15th year in Singapore, grateful for everything this city has given me. Abbey and I always make it a point to celebrate our milestones, and for this big one… we finally said, “Sige na, let’s splurge. Deserve natin yan.” 😝

And when our career/lovelife mentors recommended Morton’s Steakhouse, we knew this would be the perfect place.

Morton’s doesn’t rely on Marina Bay views to impress. In fact, it’s fully enclosed — and that turned out to be such a blessing. No distractions. No flashy skyline. Just you, your dinner, and the person you chose to share this moment with.

The lighting is mellow, the atmosphere calming, and the table arrangements are thoughtfully spaced. Everything is elegant without being intimidating. I call it peace.

From the complimentary onion bread to the final spoonful of dessert, Morton’s shows a kitchen that knows exactly what it’s doing — no theatrics, no gimmicks, just solid culinary confidence.

The Famous Onion Bread
Huge, warm, fragrant — and actually good. The texture isn’t too airy, and the butter melts into all the right spots. It kept us happy while waiting for the mains. (Yes, they gave us an extra one to bring home. My love language? Free bread.)

Rack of Lamb (S$128)
Perfectly cooked, no “lamby” smell, no odd aftertaste — just tender, juicy meat that stands on its own. This is the kind of dish that doesn’t need a long introduction. I would call it “mastery in execution.”

Add a glass of wine (S$28) and you’re set.

The mashed potatoes and mac & cheese are not extraordinary — but that’s the point. They’re comforting, balanced, and made to support the star of the show.

But the real surprise?
The complimentary soufflé. Generous, cloud-like, lightly sweet — unexpectedly impressive for something free.

Morton’s goes beyond good food. They handed us a free photo print to capture our celebration — a small but meaningful touch that made the night feel personal. Moments like these remind you why certain restaurants earn their reputation.

Thank you, Morton’s Steakhouse Singapore, for the impeccable service, the exceptional meal, and yes… the extra onion bread. You definitely made our 15th year extra special.

From UK Cravings to Singapore Finds: Our Lad & Dad and Dopa Creamery Experience

ABBEY: We were craving some good old fish and chips, and a quick Google search pointed us to Lad & Dad at Tanjong Pagar Plaza. It’s a cozy spot known for its authentic British comfort food, so we decided to give it a try.

Their Fish and Chips instantly brought back memories of our meals in the UK; perfectly crispy batter on the outside and moist, flaky fish inside. Of course, we didn’t forget what we learned in London: a dash of vinegar makes it even better.

We also ordered Bangers and Mash, and it didn’t disappoint. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy, while the pork sausages were flavorful and paired nicely with the rich gravy. To round out the meal, we added a serving of onion rings that were crunchy and satisfying, adding a nice texture contrast to our mains.

Expect to spend around SGD 50 for two, including service charge, which is quite reasonable for the quality and portion. Special mention to the staff for their warm and friendly service, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

After our hearty dinner, we walked a short distance to Dopa, an artisan gelato cafe that’s perfect for dessert lovers.

We tried the Pistachio Kunafa Gelato, which had a creamy, slightly nutty flavor l,not too sweet, just right. The texture was soft yet rich, making it a delightful treat. For drinks, we ordered the Pistachio Hojicha Latte; smooth, velvety, and comforting, especially after a savory meal.

It was the perfect way to end the evening. A mix of familiar flavors, cozy ambiance, and comforting bites.

WILL: When you travel and taste the food of another country, that experience tends to linger — the flavor, aroma, texture, and presentation all stay with you. For me, after our trip to the UK and Ireland, one dish kept coming to mind: fish and chips.

A few months later, my cravings led me to Lad & Dad, a popular spot in Singapore known for its British comfort food. The restaurant is conveniently within walking distance from our office, so Abbey and I decided to drop by for our Friday night date.

We arrived early, just before the crowd started forming. By 7 PM, the queue was already long — definitely a good sign for first-timers!

Here’s what we ordered:
 • Bangers and Mash – Unfortunately, this one was a letdown. The pork sausages tasted like they came straight from a supermarket package — quite thin and not satisfying for the price.
 • Fish and Chips – This dish redeemed the night. The batter was crispy, golden, and not oily, and the fish inside was tender and flaky. At SGD 20 for 150g, it’s slightly pricey but gives you that nostalgic UK fish-and-chips experience.

Would I come back? Maybe — probably after six months or when the craving strikes again!

After dinner, we walked over to Dopa Creamery, located just behind Lad & Dad. I ordered a Pistachio Hojicha Latte (SGD 8) — a nice twist from my usual tea latte.

But the real star of the night? The Pistachio Kunafa (SGD 10). Sweet, nutty, and indulgent — I’ll definitely be returning just for a pint of that dessert!

If you’re missing British comfort food in Singapore, Lad & Dad is worth a try — especially for its fish and chips. And when you’re done, walk a few steps over to Dopa Creamery for a sweet treat that won’t disappoint.

Scarlett Supermarket Paya Lebar vs Suntec – Where’s the Best Chinese Hot Food in Singapore?

ABBEY:  If you’re craving authentic Chinese flavors in Singapore, Scarlett Supermarket is more than just a place to stock up on groceries. It’s also a spot to enjoy hearty Chinese comfort food. We’ve visited both their Suntec and Westgate outlets, and each trip has been a delicious experience.

One of our favorites has to be the dumplings. They’re generously sized, packed with juicy meat and fragrant chives, and perfect for sharing (though you might want them all to yourself!). Another standout dish is the red mala noodles. At first glance, it looks intimidating with its fiery red broth, but if you can handle spice, it’s absolutely worth it. The soup is tangy, spicy, and loaded with ingredients like mushrooms, lotus root, and tender meat.

We also tried their Chinese sausage, which caught our eye because it’s shaped like a bratwurst. While it looks Western, the flavor is distinctly Chinese; on the sweet side.

Where’s the Best Chinese Hot Food in Singapore?

WILL: Is this a sign? Haha! Paparinig ako kay Abbey… baka naman China trip na next destination namin? 😍
So, what’s the relation of Scarlett and China?
Scarlett Supermarket in Singapore is a well-known grocery store that mainly sells Chinese products—from snacks, sauces, frozen goods, to everyday essentials. Prices are affordable, quality is ok, but for me, the real highlight is not just the supermarket… it’s their hot food section!

If you’re wondering where to eat affordable Chinese food in Singapore, Scarlett should be on your list. We recently visited two branches: Scarlett Supermarket Paya Lebar and Scarlett Supermarket Suntec City, and here’s my quick comparison:
     >Suntec Branch – More serene and quiet, but with fewer tables. Perfect if you want a calm spot to enjoy your meal.

     >Paya Lebar Branch – Spacious, wide variety of dishes, and they even offer free noodle or rice refill! Downside: not every dish hit my taste expectations, but with so many choices, you’ll never run out of new things to try.

Now, my must-try dishes in Suntec Branch:
•Signature Hot and Sour Noodles – Suntec branch nailed this one! The flavors brought me back to my first visit in Qingdao, China. Pure nostalgia!
•Mala Dumplings – Spicy, savory, and absolutely drool-worthy. A total winner!

Whether you go to Scarlett Supermarket Suntec or Scarlett Supermarket Paya Lebar, you’ll enjoy exploring both their grocery aisles and hot food counter. It’s a mix of affordable Chinese groceries and delicious meals—authentic, budget-friendly, and oh-so-satisfying!
