218 Zhong Xin Centre Hokkien Mee Punggol

ABBEY: We recently got to know that there is food stall at Punggol that serves good Hokkien Mee. For just SGD4, you can have a plate of freshly cooked noodles.

It is semi-creamy/semi-runny and has a smokey flavor; reminds me of the lomi noodles from Philippines. Now I have more options when I get hungry.

WILL: It is nice to know that there are good hawkers around Sengkang and Punggol and it is easy to go because of the bike sharing that we can rent anytime. This time, we went for a cycle to discover the 218 Hokkien Mee.

The taste somewhat outstands the others. It has a smokey taste and the chili (dedicated for oyster cake) is excitingly complements the noodles we are munching.

This is a must to check for Punggol residents. Till our next hawker pigging out!

Stir-Fried Chicken With Bell Peppers

VERDICT
ABBEY : This is a simple sautéed dish. But don’t be fooled. The flavor is awesome. I didn’t know that bell peppers can bring lots of flavor and make a dish delicious.

Serve with hot rice and you’re good to go.

Lady M Singapore at South Beach

ABBEY: After checking what Seamless conference offers at Suntec Convention Centre we went to Lady M (South Beach Tower) for a snack.

We got two slices of cake and two beverages for SGD30. I had Caramel Miroir. It is a sponge cake topped with dark chocolate mousse and caramel. It was sweet and the burnt taste of caramel gives it a distinct after taste. It is perfect for my cup of cappuccino.

The place is chic and looks elegant; the walls as well as the furnishings are white.

WILL: Abbey and I attended the Seamless Event at Suntec City and just few walks at MRT links us at JW Marriot's South Beach Building.

While Abbey is on the phone with a Singtel's customer care, I am busy checking the net what is the best cafe we can go for a snack.

Lady M (New York) it is! Sat beside the window pane and we just want to watch the rain and traffic at the street.

Ordered their famous cake, Signature Mille Crepes  and a teapot of Lemon Ginger Green Tea. The cake outrageously melts in your mouth. Oh my gosh! One of the best cake here in Singapore. The sweetness of every bite is responding perfectly on my tea.

The ambiance is relaxing. It pushes out Abbey's anxiety (Singtel bill). Haha!

1 carrot (julienned)

1/2 cup vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 onion (minced)
salt and pepper to taste

With enough heated oil, sauté the onions ang garlic. Put in the carrots. After 3 minutes, add in your mung beans for another 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and let it cool. Wrap the cooked vegetables with spring roll wrapper. Deep fry until the wrapper turns golden brown.

Serve hot with the dip.

Lumpiang Toge (Mung Bean Sprouts Spring Rolls)

VERDICT
ABBEY: I don’t know why only this time we did this dish. Maybe because it takes more time to cook than others.

But it’s worth it. The crunchiness of the wrapper on each bite and putting spicy soy sauce-vinegar mix inside is so satisfying. You can eat this on its own or with rice.

Sin Heng Kee Porridge

ABBEY: I thought nothing will beat my go-to porridge at Kovan but I was wrong when I got to taste a bowl at Sin Heng Kee. I got Signature Porridge for SGD5.

It has minced pork, sliced pork, liver, cuttle fish, pork intestines, and century egg. Yeah that is a mouthful. Every scoop is delicious and full of flavor. Perfect for a rainy afternoon.

This is recommended. The queue is never ending. We also ordered a takeaway. Haha.

WILL: Declaring that I ate the best porridge in Singapore! Then, Ma'am Tammy presented a contender.. The Sin Heng Kee.

Ma'am Tammy gave us the address which is just steps away from her residence. Amazed that this porridge occupied one whole store. At wee hour of 430pm there are people coming non-stop to queue for take-away and the numbers of tables are half occupied too.

I ordered Pork Porridge. The aroma of porridge is so strong that you want to eat it all in one gulp. BUT you can't. Be careful! It is hot! Have you eaten at Tim Ho Wan? This is the "hawker-style" and hawker price. The rice seems well-boiled, you do not need to chew the rice. Haha! The pork is tender. Love it!

So, please! Go and visit Sin Heng Kee.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - IMAX 3D at Shaw Waterway Point IMAX 3D

Abbey: 2018 is the 10th year of Marvel Cinematic Universe and they released Avengers Infinity War. This is where all the Marvel Superheroes, who had their stories told in the silverscreen in the past ten years, joined together to fight Thanos.

We watched it on IMAX 3D and it was superb. It is as if you’re there at the scene and you can really feel the action. I do recommend it.

The punchlines really kill the seriousnes of the scenes in a fun way. Haha. As the story unfolds, I’m also in the same boat with the Avengers to beat Thanos. That guy is strong and powerful; that’s why prepare for the loss”es”. Yes with “es”.

Don’t forget to wait for the end credits. And check your pagers.

WILL: Huh?! You haven’t seen the Infinity War yet? OMG! You are missing the movie of the year! My gosh! Excuse me DC fans! Admit it! Marvel is doing great! Haha!

I can't say anything bad in the movie. 100/100! It is perfect specially if you saw it in 3D IMAX! You can feel you are part of the scene. If I’ll be asked if I will watch this in a digital? No! Never!

Xiang Rui Zhou Pin 祥瑞粥品 - One of the BEST Porridge

ABBEY: Wilma introduced this porridge to me when the stall is still at Tanjong Pagar. We buy it every morning. Haha. Somehow the Tanjong Pagar hawker center was renovated and it was closed. Her colleague told her that it has a branch at Kovan. I searched for it and found it. Now it is closer to our home.

A bowl starts at 3.50SGD with pork slices, century egg and youtiao. It was delicious. The taste is right; no need for condiments. They also have chicken, frog and minced pork.

This is a must-try. Expect queue as well.

WILL: Every lunch we are requesting to one of our colleague to buy a bowl of this porridge. And it is a mile away. Haha! Not always, they are in the mood to walk that far. In luck, they have a branch at Kovan

Abbey, always craved for its taste and sometimes after his night shift he will buy some of those for breakfast. Of course you are not intrigued of its taste, for sure it is tasty unlike other porridge that taste water haha!

Umami flavour enveloped that porridge. Not just water and rice. The pork and century egg merged to satisfaction! Buy an extra fried dough, and soak it to your  porridge to soften! Yummy!

With this, who will say porridge is a meal for a sick man?

Honey Garlic Sriracha Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:
8 chicken wings
1 cup all-purpose flour
salt and pepper
1/3 cup sriracha
1/3 cup honey
1 tbsp vinegar

Mix flour, salt and pepper.
Coat the chicken wings and deep fry them. Set aside.

In a pot, mix sriracha sauce, honey and vinegar. Put in low heat and stir for a couple of minutes until it thickens.

Add the chicken and stir until the wings are coated.

Serve with rice. Or beer :)

Honey Garlic Sriracha Chicken

VERDICT
WILL: Abbey and I saw a youtube channel that interviews people while eating chicken wings coated with chili sauce.

Drooling on their every bite, I requested Abbey to do a Honey Garlic Sriracha Chicken for our dinner.

The crispiness and spiciness is totally bombastic in our tastebuds! Lovely! Who will count on cholesterol if the chicken's skin will be the most important part! Haha!

Next time, I think I can endure the next spiciness level!

Tiger Brewery (Singapore) Tour

ABBEY: Tiger Beer is a product of Singapore and you can have a guided tour for only SGD 18. Make sure to come on time as the tour will start with or without you.

The first stop is getting to know the ingredients; malt, yeast, hops, and water. Then onto the process; getting the malt out of the pulp, fermentation, and packaging. It will take 5-weeks for a batch to be completed and make beer. We were also shown how to do a perfect pour (remember two-finger foam).

At the start of the tour we were given sampling tickets. And we can use them to taste Tiger beer products as well as other beers being made on the plant. And you can enjoy your drinks in a cosy bar with leather seats, billiard table and dart boards.

I like the Strong Bow Apple Cider and Tiger Radler Lemon. Yup, less alcohol for me. And we also got to take home a bottle of extra fresh Tiger Beer which was bottled that same day.

WILL: Do you really, really think that there's nothing left for you to visit here in Singapore? Well, think again! Have you checked out Tiger's Brewery?!

Good news! They are now open on Sundays for them to accommodate more people! What you can see in this factory? Of course the process on how they manufacture the Tiger Beer. Only that?! Do you know that Tiger Beer have bandwagons of other fermented drinks? Their team includes Barons, Guinness, ABC, Anchor, Strongbow and you have got a chance to sip those at the end of the tour.

What I can say about our tour? Our guide seems in a hurry, he didn’t gave us a chance to watch videos. Why I know that there should be videos to watch? I saw the other group (after us) well-focused on the big screen just before we left the building. I also forgot to take his name down. Anyways, I won a quiz game and he gave me a try to take a beer right on the tap! 500mL.

Then after the tour they will give you another 500mL each of Tiger Beer on a weissber glass and 5 coupons of your choice of beer. The lanyard, you can keep. But if you gave back the Visitor's ID itself, they will hand you over a freshly brewed bottled beer for you to take home.

Their bar/tavern is relaxing. It is just like that you were thrown to US. Haha! Leather seats, billiards, darts. They have chips available for sale.

The best time to go? 2pm. $18? Not a rip-off! Before I forget! Abbey discovered his beer type in here! If you want more beer and you run out of the sampling tickets, you can have a new set (5 tickets) for only $5.

Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe - Dine with Private Planes

ABBEY: Yey, after almost 10 kilometers of cycling, we’ve reached Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe. We settled ourselves from sweat before looking at their menu.

I had fish and chips for SGD 11.80. Only light snack to give energy as we also cycled back home. But they are also serving heavy meals like steak and rice bowls. The fish is crispy on the outside but moist in the inside and really went well with the dipping sauce. The fries is somehow smaller than the ones in the fastfood chains.

WILL: Let's admit that the most cafes at Seletar Park have hefty prices! So we chose to dine at Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe. It has beautiful scenery. A tree? A park? A lake? No! A private plane runway! So ATASSSS!

Delighted to see that they have a ice cream sandwich! When it was served I am quite disappointed because it is small. But suprisingly, it made me feel full! Haha. I cannot finish if you gave me another quarter of that ice cream.

Washed down the sweetness with water! Then we cycle again back to home. Well, less 5 minutes to an hour of exercise... again! HA!

Cycle Singapore: Punggol to Seletar Aerospace

ABBEY: We always wanted to go to Seletar Aerospace Park. And so we did; thru bicycle. Yes, we pedaled the 16-km roundtrip (distance according to Strava). And all we have have is a 1.5 liter of isotonic drink, towel and phone.

It was fun as we get to see new buildings, landed houses and fields. It was the same time tiring but we need to get there and most importantly to get back home. There is no turning back. As with the park’s name we got to see private planes. Another sight that inspired me to strive harder.

Next journey is to IKEA.

Cycle Singapore: TPE / Jalan Kayu

WILL: This time I wish to experience a long cycle. Abbey wants to go to Seletar Aerospace to check out the reataurants there. Combining our wish and wants! Tadaaaannn! It's a date.

Abbey plotted the route and while planning it he is so anxious because the map directing is us to cycle at expressway. Haha!

Cycling will make you appreciate nature. The greenery landscapes of Singapore and clean air you can breath.

Imagine the uphill track? One uncle sitting at bus stop looked at me, smiled and there is a look in his eyes that seems asking me "Why you punish yourself?" Haha!

We happily spend almost 1 hour each way. The next day, I have hard time walking normally. Haha.

Cycling is a good exercise. You will save money by using bike sharing services, you can help to decongest too the buses and MRT trains. Let's cycle, expolore Singapore. Have healthier FUN!

Lime Lunch Buffet - PARKROYAL on Pickering -- Eatigo 50% off

ABBEY: After our relaxing stay at Pegasus Boutique Hotel, we headed to Lime restaurant at ParkRoyal on Pickering to have lunch. We got 50% off thru eatigo.

I ate a lot of salmon sashimi and maki sushi. I also had cream dory, roasted beef, crispy fish skin, sweet and sour fish fillet, fried pork belly and chicken. What stood out is their braised beef. It taste like our “beef pares” back in Philippines. Unfortunately the only rice item on their buffet is the lotus leaf glutinous rice. If there would have been white rice then I’ll not leave the place :)

I also had a couple of merengue, ice cream and cheesecake.

WILL: What is a celebration without a feast of food? We reserved seats at Lime Restaurant with 50% promotion at Eatigo. What's the catch? Devour the food you can in an hour.

What's the best I have seen that is not available in other buffets?

First, their wheel of cheese and pasta is on it. Want more cheese? Dig in the bottom part and grate off the cheese at the side. Hehe.

Second, sweet tooth will definetely fall in love of the 2-table stretch of desserts. Matcha fountain! Woohoooh! The caramel syrup available for your ice cream! Sugar overload!

Third, spy on the chunks of mozarella on their salad. Eat more of salad and be healthy and happy!

Sushi with mayonnaise is a win. I can't help myself but to take more than three of it for each round.

Coffee and tea is included at the buffet price!

Nam Kee JB Pau - The Grandstand Branch

ABBEY: Nam Kee JB Pau store in Waterway point has never ending queue until all the paos run out. We went to The Grandstand and they have tables for you to dine in. But still the queue is there; three of them to be exact (noodles, paus and dimsum, and drinks).

We got crispy noodles, pork porridge, two big paos, char siew pau, and siew mai. The noodle soup is delicious. The paos have good amount of fillings and the bun is soft. They are worth the queue :)

In Waterway, we ordered Mee Hon Kuay (gnocchi-like texture) and Ke Kuo Noodle (Maggi-noodle-like) for 4SGD a bowl.

Nam Kee JB Pau - The Grandstand Branch

WILL: To partner up our "kampong" stay, we went to The Grandstand and braved ourselves to wait and wait in the loooong queue at JB Pau.

They have a branch at Waterway Punggol (takeaway counter) and yet we still prefer to hold our curiosity to taste their food on our 7th wedding anniversary celebration.

I went for porridge that time and there is nothing special on it. What I enjoyed the most is their well-wrapped siew mai. No need to dip on anything.

Then, after a week, we saw that there's a short queue at the their branch at Waterway Point Punggol, next order is Mee Hon Kuay, only S$4.00. You know gnocchi? Yes! This is the malay style! The "pasta" consistency is firm. The soup is tasty! Oh my! I can eat that every day.

Now we know why the queue is ALWAYS long. Haha.
