Marrybrown Singapore - Something Different!

ABBEY's Video Review: Starts at 1:40

WILL: There's a long list of variation of food you can indulge in Sentosa and Marrybrown is one of the fastfood that you can try in the island. And this is the only Marrybrown branch islandwide! The name somewhat sounds like Westerner but don't be fooled...it is a local company from Malaysia. So, do not be intimidated, you can afford the food in here.

They have a good location, they are just beside the iFly and Luge. Now, you will know that is quite packed every time it is dinner time.

I ordered fish and chips! Oh lucky! Their fried fish is crispy but not drenched in oil! Dip it at the tartar sauce. Perfect!

Why is there only one branch here in Singapore?

Nam Kee JB Pau - The Grandstand Branch

ABBEY: Nam Kee JB Pau store in Waterway point has never ending queue until all the paos run out. We went to The Grandstand and they have tables for you to dine in. But still the queue is there; three of them to be exact (noodles, paus and dimsum, and drinks).

We got crispy noodles, pork porridge, two big paos, char siew pau, and siew mai. The noodle soup is delicious. The paos have good amount of fillings and the bun is soft. They are worth the queue :)

In Waterway, we ordered Mee Hon Kuay (gnocchi-like texture) and Ke Kuo Noodle (Maggi-noodle-like) for 4SGD a bowl.

WILL: To partner up our "kampong" stay, we went to The Grandstand and braved ourselves to wait and wait in the loooong queue at JB Pau.

They have a branch at Waterway Punggol (takeaway counter) and yet we still prefer to hold our curiosity to taste their food on our 7th wedding anniversary celebration.

I went for porridge that time and there is nothing special on it. What I enjoyed the most is their well-wrapped siew mai. No need to dip on anything.

Then, after a week, we saw that there's a short queue at the their branch at Waterway Point Punggol, next order is Mee Hon Kuay, only S$4.00. You know gnocchi? Yes! This is the malay style! The "pasta" consistency is firm. The soup is tasty! Oh my! I can eat that every day.

Now we know why the queue is ALWAYS long. Haha.

Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart @ Suria KLCC

ABBEY: Cheese tarts are becoming popular nowadays. They’re selling like hotcakes and the profit is good as they are pricey. So we took the opportunity to buy a box of six for (MYR5.80 each) when we went to Malaysia.

It was delicious and so cheesy. It is not all tart, but with generous amount of fillings. Perfect pair for my kopi.

WILL:
This is our last blog for our Malaysia 2-day escapade.

Before paving our way to airport, Abbey didn’t forget to buy out for me to bring home the Hokkaido Cheese Tart. He definitely knew me, I LOVE CHEESE!

For only MYR5.80 each (Free 1 for every 5), my husband define turned on my happy cells. Haha!

So what's the taste? It is cheese so what do you expect guys! Ha! Creamy, slight salty but the coarse tart made a huge impact on every bite. Awesome!

Perfect for tea and any time of the day. Ahhm yeah! I can eat the whole pack of 6 in one seating.

Sorry diet!

Valentine Roti - Best Roti Canai in KL

ABBEY: There were many recommendations for Valentine Roti as a must-visit place in Kuala Lumpur. So after a few moments of refreshing at Elements Kuala Lumpur, we booked a taxi headed on to the place. It looks like a carinderia (eatery) in the Philippines; open and beside the road.

I got a serving of Valentine Thosai. For (MYR6.00), I had a plate of large thosai and different gravies. It was the same taste as I had tried in Singapore. Then I also had kopi to match.

Beware of the attacking stray cat :)..

WILL: Because Abbey is gaga over Indian Cuisines, we searched and found the best roti canai that travelers and bloggers are talking about. It is Valentine Roti.

Ok, ok! I admit that we made a bad choice when we booked a hotel taxi to go there, it costs us MYR50. Haha! Where it is located? Just 15-minutes walk from the Petronas' Twin Towers. Anyway, here it goes.

It only opens from 530pm till late night, so strike it out for breakfast or lunch. We arrived before 6pm and one by one people are filling up the empty tables.

I went for their famous crispy Roti Canai which costs only MYR1.50. Yep it is totally crispy and they served me 3 kinds of hot vegetarian dips! Oh! Can't take off my hands on it until I finished the 2 pcs.

That is a total value for money. I think the delight on my tastebuds compensated what we'd spend at taxi. (Bloody conscience kicking in).

Visit Valentine Roti! :)

Precious Old China at The Central Market, Kuala Lumpur

ABBEY: You know what a restaurant looks like in movies where it is dimly lit and the gangsters will come and occupy the whole place? That’s the feel of Precious Old China restaurant at second storey of Central Market. Not that it is terrfying or scary but you’re like in a movie.

The restaurant is packed with big groups of people. You can see old wooden chairs, tables and cabinet and a bar is located at the left side of the entrance. But just press a button to get your order or bill.

Now, that is “new” stuff. I got Nasi Lemak. It has blue-white rice (mimics the china porcelain) and the chicken is curry chicken not fried and chicken lobak; all for (MYR12.80). Nothing much with the rice except for the color. But the curry chicken curry is delicious as well as the lobak which gives more flavor after dipping in sweet chili sauce.

You can pay via card but the bill must have a minimum of 50MYR.

WILL: When we arrived in KL Malaysia, all I want is to taste their local food with curry. So for our first meal for our trip at Central Market, I ordered Nyonya Laksa at Precious Old China. Well, of course Abbey went for the blue rice of Precious Nasi Lemak.

It totally made a difference when you sprinkle kalamansi or lime. It gave a spark. The soup is creamy, noodle itself was cooked to its perfection. Tourist are flagging this restaurant for a good reason.

'Till our next visit!

Little Penang Kafe at at Suria KLCC (Petronas Twin Towers Mall) - Kuala Lumpur

ABBEY: We just checked out at the hotel and went to KLCC mall for lunch and we found Little Penang Cafe. A cafe that serves local delights.

We were ushered to our seats and I ordered Nyonya Fried Chicken for MYR19. A blade of lemon grass was wounded on the chicken and then fried. It was crispy and savoury. It goes well with the sambal sauce and rice. Then I partnered it with a glass of kopi. Wow, what a great lunch.

WILL: We are at Malaysia and we are there to explore the local food and my-oh-my we found this treasure at KLCC Mall: The Little Penang Cafe.

There is no queue when we got there around 1pm but there are some tables reserved. Only few minutes passed, the tables are all occupied and there is long line of people waiting outside for their turn.

I got their famous and CNNGO #7 world's 7 most delicious food, the Penang Assam Laksa.

My mind was blown when I got my first spoonful of their soup! Whew! Miss that taste. It is literally an explosion of flavours inside my mouth. My tastebuds do not know which taste to concentrate haha! Spiciness, saltiness or the umami taste of that huge bowl, yes it is a big bowl that can be shared by two but I am sorry to tell I just gave Abbey about 3 spoons of it. Haha. Gluttony!

Kuddos to their staffs too! They are accurate! The turning of tables are fast enough that do not cause a big build up of queue outside. :)

Till we meet again!
