Tiger Brewery (Singapore) Tour

ABBEY: Tiger Beer is a product of Singapore and you can have a guided tour for only SGD 18. Make sure to come on time as the tour will start with or without you.

The first stop is getting to know the ingredients; malt, yeast, hops, and water. Then onto the process; getting the malt out of the pulp, fermentation, and packaging. It will take 5-weeks for a batch to be completed and make beer. We were also shown how to do a perfect pour (remember two-finger foam).

At the start of the tour we were given sampling tickets. And we can use them to taste Tiger beer products as well as other beers being made on the plant. And you can enjoy your drinks in a cosy bar with leather seats, billiard table and dart boards.

I like the Strong Bow Apple Cider and Tiger Radler Lemon. Yup, less alcohol for me. And we also got to take home a bottle of extra fresh Tiger Beer which was bottled that same day.

WILL: Do you really, really think that there's nothing left for you to visit here in Singapore? Well, think again! Have you checked out Tiger's Brewery?!

Good news! They are now open on Sundays for them to accommodate more people! What you can see in this factory? Of course the process on how they manufacture the Tiger Beer. Only that?! Do you know that Tiger Beer have bandwagons of other fermented drinks? Their team includes Barons, Guinness, ABC, Anchor, Strongbow and you have got a chance to sip those at the end of the tour.

What I can say about our tour? Our guide seems in a hurry, he didn’t gave us a chance to watch videos. Why I know that there should be videos to watch? I saw the other group (after us) well-focused on the big screen just before we left the building. I also forgot to take his name down. Anyways, I won a quiz game and he gave me a try to take a beer right on the tap! 500mL.

Then after the tour they will give you another 500mL each of Tiger Beer on a weissber glass and 5 coupons of your choice of beer. The lanyard, you can keep. But if you gave back the Visitor's ID itself, they will hand you over a freshly brewed bottled beer for you to take home.

Their bar/tavern is relaxing. It is just like that you were thrown to US. Haha! Leather seats, billiards, darts. They have chips available for sale.

The best time to go? 2pm. $18? Not a rip-off! Before I forget! Abbey discovered his beer type in here! If you want more beer and you run out of the sampling tickets, you can have a new set (5 tickets) for only $5.

Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe - Dine with Private Planes

ABBEY: Yey, after almost 10 kilometers of cycling, we’ve reached Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe. We settled ourselves from sweat before looking at their menu.

I had fish and chips for SGD 11.80. Only light snack to give energy as we also cycled back home. But they are also serving heavy meals like steak and rice bowls. The fish is crispy on the outside but moist in the inside and really went well with the dipping sauce. The fries is somehow smaller than the ones in the fastfood chains.

WILL: Let's admit that the most cafes at Seletar Park have hefty prices! So we chose to dine at Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe. It has beautiful scenery. A tree? A park? A lake? No! A private plane runway! So ATASSSS!

Delighted to see that they have a ice cream sandwich! When it was served I am quite disappointed because it is small. But suprisingly, it made me feel full! Haha. I cannot finish if you gave me another quarter of that ice cream.

Washed down the sweetness with water! Then we cycle again back to home. Well, less 5 minutes to an hour of exercise... again! HA!

Cycle Singapore: Punggol to Seletar Aerospace

ABBEY: We always wanted to go to Seletar Aerospace Park. And so we did; thru bicycle. Yes, we pedaled the 16-km roundtrip (distance according to Strava). And all we have have is a 1.5 liter of isotonic drink, towel and phone.

It was fun as we get to see new buildings, landed houses and fields. It was the same time tiring but we need to get there and most importantly to get back home. There is no turning back. As with the park’s name we got to see private planes. Another sight that inspired me to strive harder.

Next journey is to IKEA.

WILL: This time I wish to experience a long cycle. Abbey wants to go to Seletar Aerospace to check out the reataurants there. Combining our wish and wants! Tadaaaannn! It's a date.

Abbey plotted the route and while planning it he is so anxious because the map directing is us to cycle at expressway. Haha!

Cycling will make you appreciate nature. The greenery landscapes of Singapore and clean air you can breath.

Imagine the uphill track? One uncle sitting at bus stop looked at me, smiled and there is a look in his eyes that seems asking me "Why you punish yourself?" Haha!

We happily spend almost 1 hour each way. The next day, I have hard time walking normally. Haha.

Cycling is a good exercise. You will save money by using bike sharing services, you can help to decongest too the buses and MRT trains. Let's cycle, expolore Singapore. Have healthier FUN!

Lime Lunch Buffet - PARKROYAL on Pickering -- Eatigo 50% off

ABBEY: After our relaxing stay at Pegasus Boutique Hotel, we headed to Lime restaurant at ParkRoyal on Pickering to have lunch. We got 50% off thru eatigo.

I ate a lot of salmon sashimi and maki sushi. I also had cream dory, roasted beef, crispy fish skin, sweet and sour fish fillet, fried pork belly and chicken. What stood out is their braised beef. It taste like our “beef pares” back in Philippines. Unfortunately the only rice item on their buffet is the lotus leaf glutinous rice. If there would have been white rice then I’ll not leave the place :)

I also had a couple of merengue, ice cream and cheesecake.

WILL: What is a celebration without a feast of food? We reserved seats at Lime Restaurant with 50% promotion at Eatigo. What's the catch? Devour the food you can in an hour.

What's the best I have seen that is not available in other buffets?

First, their wheel of cheese and pasta is on it. Want more cheese? Dig in the bottom part and grate off the cheese at the side. Hehe.

Second, sweet tooth will definetely fall in love of the 2-table stretch of desserts. Matcha fountain! Woohoooh! The caramel syrup available for your ice cream! Sugar overload!

Third, spy on the chunks of mozarella on their salad. Eat more of salad and be healthy and happy!

Sushi with mayonnaise is a win. I can't help myself but to take more than three of it for each round.

Coffee and tea is included at the buffet price!

Nam Kee JB Pau - The Grandstand Branch

ABBEY: Nam Kee JB Pau store in Waterway point has never ending queue until all the paos run out. We went to The Grandstand and they have tables for you to dine in. But still the queue is there; three of them to be exact (noodles, paus and dimsum, and drinks).

We got crispy noodles, pork porridge, two big paos, char siew pau, and siew mai. The noodle soup is delicious. The paos have good amount of fillings and the bun is soft. They are worth the queue :)

In Waterway, we ordered Mee Hon Kuay (gnocchi-like texture) and Ke Kuo Noodle (Maggi-noodle-like) for 4SGD a bowl.

WILL: To partner up our "kampong" stay, we went to The Grandstand and braved ourselves to wait and wait in the loooong queue at JB Pau.

They have a branch at Waterway Punggol (takeaway counter) and yet we still prefer to hold our curiosity to taste their food on our 7th wedding anniversary celebration.

I went for porridge that time and there is nothing special on it. What I enjoyed the most is their well-wrapped siew mai. No need to dip on anything.

Then, after a week, we saw that there's a short queue at the their branch at Waterway Point Punggol, next order is Mee Hon Kuay, only S$4.00. You know gnocchi? Yes! This is the malay style! The "pasta" consistency is firm. The soup is tasty! Oh my! I can eat that every day.

Now we know why the queue is ALWAYS long. Haha.

Pegasus Boutique Hotel - One of Singapore’s Iconic Heritage Buildings

ABBEY: Wilma booked this hotel reservation at Pegasus Boutique Hotel in time for our 7th year wedding anniversary. It is a boutique hotel so there will be no fancy lobby or amenities.

Our room is spacious and had new sheets :) The place is kampong (province-like) and quiet. The shower head holder is broken and there is no door to separate the shower from the toilet. Maybe I just don’t know how to operate the TV but the available channels can be counted with my fingers. And it gives static sound whenever you use it. Anyways, we went there to relax and I had a good sleep. I feel refreshed in the morning.

You can spend time in a bar adjacent to the hotel or try a 10-minute walk to the Grandstand.

WILL: It is our 7th year anniversary and I am on sabbatical leave. Luckily, Pegasus Hotel offered an irresistable promotion! A S$48++ a night on their abode.

Based on their location and building structure, I know what should I expect. And I am right! A simple "kampong" style rooms!

Throw away the idea of lavish 5-star hotels and indulge in the simplicity of life and nature around. This is not your claustrophobic type hotel you can check-in the CBD area. :)

The room has its basic needs. A bed, tv, bathroom, airconditioning, a fridge. Amenities are pool, a bbq pit and just a small bar in front of the reception area.

Oh one more thing, it reminds me of provinces in Philippines. We turned-off the aircon around 10pm because it is very cold inside the room. And around 5am a rooster will wake you up! Haha! Nice!

Enjoyed the surroundings! Can we declare this as "province" of Singapore? Hehe! One more thing! The staffs around are lovely! Smiles never left their faces.

Kotobuki Coffee at Wisma Atria Orchard

ABBEY: We had our lunch date at Kotobuki Japanese Restaurant. A lunch set starts at SGD 9.90 with free flow of salad, coffee and tea.

I ordered Yakiniku Don; sliced pork rice bowl. The sweet teriyaki sauce runs through the meat and into the rice. This goes well with shredded cabbage, cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinegar as side dish.

WILL: After my session on underarm IPL, Abbey and I went to Wisma Atria for our lunch.

A big banner at the escalator advertises that Kotobuki having a set lunch for S$9.90+ with free flow of salad, tea and coffee. Well, who will not grab that deal right?

Before Katsu Jyu was serve on my table, we straight away go to the salad table and I fell for in love with their potato salad and marinates seaweeds. My tummy became full in no time.

For Pork Katsu , the rice is amazingly heavy and the Pork Katsu is tender enough and you can swallow by two or three chew. Haha!

This is a little bit too much for about S$10. Thanks Kotobuki. Definitely recommendable.

PappaMia (Changi Airport Terminal 1) - Singapore

ABBEY: Before NEM PH team head back to Philippines we spent lunch with them at PappaMia (Changi Airport Terminal 1).

The restaurant offers Western, Malaysian and Singaporean foods.

I had fried rice with egg and chicken. The serving is big and made me full. We also have chicken skewers and I can tell you that they are spicy. But I like it. You can still taste the savory chicken even your tongue is little numb :)

WILL: At Changi Terminal 1, Abbey and I meet for the last time the NEM Philippines team before they head back to Manila.

We ate lunch at PappaMia and I chose to have Tom Yam Seafood Noodles!

The sour aroma of the soup will make you drool but you will be surprised to taste that the sourness is just enough to balance everything in the bowl. Spicy? Not that remarkable. But the whole bowl is a total healthy meal. Carbo and protein is there!

It costs $9.90. Well, if you want a non-fastfood and tummy-filling meal at Changi Terminal 1, dine at PappaMia

Gourmet Tuyo (Dried Herring) in Olive Oil

ABBEY: We happened to have a good amount of tuyo (herring) after our vacation. Thanks to our family and friends for the pasalubong. And recently we started to cook dishes with gourmet tuyo and it cost 300 to 500PHP per jar. We thought why buy it when we can try to make it.

10-15 pcs tuyo (fried then fillet)
1 cup olive oil
1 1/2 cup vinegar
1 bulb garlic (chopped)
2 medium chili padi
sugar
salt

In a pot, heat the oil and then sauté the garlic.
Put in tuyo and chili.
Add vinegar and simmer for a couple of minutes.
Put sugar and salt according to your preference.

Gourmet Tuyo (Dried Herring) in Olive Oil

WILL: A humble "tuyo" can be oh so glamorous and expensive. Haha!

My father gave us 4 packs of dried herring and Abbey got an idea. Why will we buy an expensive gourmet tuyo if we can make it for ourselves. He dove on Youtube videos and te-ne-nen!!! Gourmet Tuyo!

It is not salty, it is not that spicy but the olive oil and vinegar gave a good taste! Manyaman! Eat with steaming hot rice.

Oh! One more thing, for sure there will be oil leftovers. Go on and have an aglio olio pasta!

Super Addictive Brownies - Dona's Recipe

ABBEY: This recipe was given to me by our friend Dona from the US of A. I was able to bake the cookies after a year :)

Follow the recipe specially when spacing the cookie dough on the baking sheet. The recipe will yield 30 chocolatey, delicious cookies.

Super Addictive Brownies - Dona's Recipe

Super Addictive Brownies

WILL: Donna's cookies are so desirable. The aroma reminds me of chips ahoy on the 80's. The taste is not too sweet and the texture is chewy and perfect for any hot drinks.

Abbey requested for the recipe and he baked it. Is it just the same? Well, it is ok. But the texture differs. Abbey's product is crumbly and the salt/sugar is not dissolved (which I love).

Now I am waiting for next baking session of Abbey.
