ABBEY: If you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine, Tamoya Udon & Tempura at Plaza Singapura is a must-visit spot. During our recent visit, we were greeted with a bit of a queue, but thankfully, the wait was short—we were seated within just a few minutes. I decided to try the  Beef & Pork Combo Don , which came topped with a perfectly cooked  onsen egg . What stood out right away was the generous portion of meat. Unlike most Japanese rice bowls where the rice often outweighs the meat, Tamoya flips the script. The bowl was filled with tender, savory slices of beef and pork that satisfied both my heart and my hunger. Another highlight was their  Kakiage —a mixed vegetable tempura that came in a sizeable portion. It was impressively light, not too oily, and paired wonderfully with the dipping sauce provided. ABBEY: If you’re a steak lover, Yappari Steak should be on your must-visit list. Although you might encounter a long queue, trust me—it’s well worth the wait! Each order of their perfectly cooked steaks comes with unlimited servings of fresh salad, fluffy Japanese rice, and hot soup, making it an unbeatable deal. On my first visit, I ordered the signature Yappari Steak, and on my second, I tried the Mix Cut. Both were incredibly tender, rich, and full of flavor with a smooth, milky texture. A word of caution: the hot stone they serve the steak on stays sizzling, so handle it carefully! While the steak is delicious on its own, I highly recommend pairing it with their garlic sauce—it’s a game-changer. I enjoyed it so much that I went through four servings of rice and multiple bowls of soup! WILL:  I’ve been stopping by VivoCity a lot lately. ABBEY: We went here for a couple of times and they didn’t disappoint (except maybe for the queue). They offer a katsu bowl along with soup, drink and shredded cabbage and seasonal vegetable. Enough to fill you up. The katsu is tender; you can even put yellow mustard along with it.  Don’t foget the sesame dressing on the cabbage. There is pickled ginger to clean the pallet. Slurp their umami miso soup and wash them all down with cold tea. Talk about katsudon and this is a recommended place. ABBEY: As Christmas is nearing, me, Wilma and Chat planned our buffet Christmas dinner at Mitsuba. And we got the best seat in the house; a bar seat (in front of the chef). We didn’t waste a minute and we immediately ordered via iPad all the Chef’s Choice items like Sashimi Moriawase (the swordfish is so tender), Sake Mentai Aburi, Ikura Sushi, Spider Temaki, and Wagyu Bifu Maki. My repeat orders are roast pork belly (yaki buta), ebi tempura, smoked duck (oh the layer of fat melts in your mouth), and Meltique Bifu (beef slice with garlic and salt). They also have ice cream; chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and lychee flavors. There are hundreds of choices so be sure to keep the orders coming but in moderation. ABBEY: We had our lunch date at Kotobuki Japanese Restaurant. A lunch set starts at SGD 9.90 with free flow of salad, coffee and tea.  I ordered Yakiniku Don; sliced pork rice bowl. The sweet teriyaki sauce runs through the meat and into the rice. This goes well with shredded cabbage, cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinegar as side dish. ABBEY: The line is so long the first time we tried to eat at Omu. So we headed before the clock strikes noon. No queue.  I ordered curry sauce omurice with chicken cutlets - lava style (yes the one where the runny scrambled egg flows to the plate once it’s cut). The curry sauce is thick and has lots of flavor. However the breading of chicken cutlets has a little burnt taste and the still can see the raw batter inside.
