The Karting Arena - Singapore Fun Karting Circuit

ABBEY: The Chua boys were excited when we told them we will go for a karting session on their visit.

We got a 35SGD/pax rate at Karting Arena. This includes two round of simulation, 10-minute actual race and a “driving license” for a year. I can say that the simulation is fun. You can bump into your competitions and still get out unscathed. But it’s different on the actual track. You need to turn the stirring wheel hard to get a good cut in the corner else you’ll eat up time. And you will definitely feel the Gs.

I completed 7 laps and finished second. Good thing that the karts’ speed can be controlled remotely. And with this, over speeding and accidents can be avoided.

The Karting Arena - Singapore Fun Karting Circuit

WILL: Abbey and I last karting was 12years ago! I know! We are sooo old haha! Singapore have 2-3 karting companies but it is quite far from Punggol. Well, due to the proximity, option to explore that activity is invisible for our goal.

Well, because my grownup nephews were visiting Singapore, this is the time to explore that karting with them.

We went for The Karting Arena. They are located at Turf Club. You can reach them via Sixth Avenue MRT or board the free shuttle from Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Fee of S$35 includes the karting license (valid for one year), 2 simulator and 15mins actual race. On simulators, we enjoyed the day already. Then we were formed and were given a safety video and instructions.

We were launched and the fun begins! In reality, the people with guts and skill will win this kind of race. Three of the guys won! Hate it! Haha.

You can see the race on the youtube video above! *wink*wink

National Orchid Garden Singapore - World's Largest Orchid Display

ABBEY: We got 3 pairs of complementary tickets to Singapore Orchid  Garden. Thanks to Nparks app for the reward. It’s a different world when you enter it which is inside Singapore Botanic Gardens. I really enjoyed and took pictures of the colorful flowers. There are orchids everywhere. The way they were grown is awesome.

For me the main attraction are the orchids which were named after foreign dignitaries who visited Singapore.Dendrobium Rodrigo Roa Duterte which has a violet-red color was named after Philippines 16th president. Others were for the Queen Elizabeth, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, and Nelson Mandela. The experience is relaxing and you’ll appreciate nature more.

WILL: Orchid is the National Flower of Singapore and they do a lot of research and breeding to let its natural beauty to shine. Yeah! They alloted a huge space of land to showcase it to the world.

Of course in National Orchid Garden, you can marvel the different colors, sizes and species of this delicate flower. Why I described it as a delicate flower? I saw my eldest brother how he took care of those. He evens talks to them just to produce flowers. It is crazy but it is true!

I know Abbey loves orchids and I find it ridiculous to pay a fee of $5 to see this garden. But hey when I am inside, $5 is not enough. Gosh! Singapore really put an effort to display, organize and take care of this huge facility.

What do you expect inside? A wide array of orchids, of course.
-Crane Fountain will welcome you.
-Enchanted Garden cradles a huge white orchid, it is like she is the princess of the garden.
-Arches that were crawled by diffent types of National Flower. Perfect for photo shoot!
-VIP Orchid Garden housed the different orchids named after important people that visits Singapore. President Duterte has one of those!

One of the perks in participating the Singapore NPark’s Coast-To-Coast Challenge is to receive different kinds of freebies or vouchers and one of those that we got is a pair of tickets to National Orchid Garden! Thanks NParks! Yey!!!

Some spaces is under renovation. We will for sure come back to see the additions to it!

Tiong Bahru Bakery Safari

ABBEY: After being in “house-arrest” for three weeks of recuperation, I managed to get out. :)

Wilma and I met with Chat and Shaine at Tiong Bahru Bakery Safari for the long-planned exchange of supplies from Philippines. It will get you sweating going to the place. What do you expect? It is a safari. A tent-like structure will welcome you and don’t worry about the heat inside. They have giant fans and good air circulation. No mosquitoes as well. I got pulled pork sandwich partnered with a latte. It is a bit pricey but the quality of food is there. The pork is sweet and sour and the coriander seeds gave the tangy kick. The latte is good as it is. No need for additional sugar.

Good to catch up with friends in a good place.

WILL: Malls were overcrowded during weekends and we need to breathe real oxygen and not processed by air conditioning, there are many cafes offering an al fresco dining at the parks but Tiong Bahru themed cafe is unusual. It is a SAFARI!

The cafe was covered with tent in a middle of garden. Believe me or not, we do not feel hot because of the good ventilation. Their designs and accessories of course even the plates were in safari concepts. It seems that we are transported to Africa. Haha! Just missing the roaring lions and other animals.

The food? It is Tiong Bahru Cafe, what wold you expect? It is good! I love the Brie & Roasted Mushroom Croissant. The brie cheese gives a different punch in every bite!

Totally recommended! A good place to relax and catch-up with friends.

HSBC Rain Vortex Light & Sound Show - Jewel Changi Airport

ABBEY: We were able to see the HSBC Rain Vortex Light Show at Jewel few minutes before watching a movie. It is a 5-minute show where the lights and sounds give life to the tallest indoor waterfall.

Show starts at 7:30PM and every hour after that until 12:30AM. But no need to wait for that; the waterfall itself will amaze you with its rainforest ambiance. Surely this is one of the jewels of Jewel.

Go to the airport way early before your flight and visit Jewel.

WILL: The newly built glass dome with cascading waterfall will surely amaze you! What more if you see the light and sound show of Jewel Changi Airport? Jewel Changi has the world’s tallest indoor waterfall with almost 38,000 liters of water cascading every minute through the oculus.

I do not want to spoil anything about the light and sound show, so please just go there and watch it. It is free every night! Enjoy!

Shaw Theatres Lumiere at Jewel Changi Airport

ABBEY: Yey, we set foot at Shaw Theaters (Jewel) when we watched Men In Black International at the Lumiere. Only less than 30 seats which means more space for every guess.

The 20SGD ticket will give you comfort from their reclining seats which converts to a something like a sofa as the middle divider can be removed. The theater is clean and the sound is immersive (DTS:X). I enjoyed watching the movie.

Shaw Theatres Lumiere at Jewel Changi Airport

WILL: Once you have experienced the comfort of watching a movie on a LaZBoy, you will save money to experience that again! On Men In Black International, we chose to go to the newest Shaw Theatre.. Jewel Changi Branch. We chose Shaw’s Lumiere.

It is the 2nd to the last full show and the ticket costs $20 each. No freebies included. Hehe. The recliner seat is made of red leather, you can put up the middle armrest to turn it to a loveseat. The legroom is spacious. The sounds, DTS:X, are more distinctive than the other cinema halls.

Will I buy a Lumiere ticket again? Maybe not. It is pretty expensive.

The Bicentennial Experience - From Singapore to Singaporean

ABBEY: Wouldn’t it be nice if you learn history not from a book or in a classroom but in a sensory-immersive experience? That’s why we booked the 60-minute show From Singapore to Singaporean: The Bicentennial Experience at Fort Canning Centre.

It was divided into five parts. First is The Beginnings where it shows how Singapore began and got discoverd by her first rulers. Be thrilled when you see rain go up right before your eyes. Next is The Arrival wherein the period of Dutch and British were shown. Then the Connectivity as Singapore grew as a nation and its evolution. On this act, make sure that you stay on your sit. The Occupation is the darkest of them all literally. You will be in a darkroom listening to the stories during Japanese invasion. At the end is destiny. The last act shows how the rain became part of nation’s history from the first National Day Parade to Singapore Founding Father Lee Kuan Yew’s death.

It also exhibited Singapore’s self-determination, openness and multiculturalism that helped the nation to go forward and grow.
This was indeed a great experience for me to learn more about my host country.

WILL: We love to know the history of just anything. You can lock Abbey and I in a room with documentaries of different nations. On that, we can learn more about nations customs, beliefs and even attitudes. Singapore is one of the best country who portrays and explains their roots.

2019 Singapore celebrates the 200th year Raffles arrival. Fort Canning Centre was transformed and became “The Bicentennial Experience”. History came to life! Way back 700 years ago. Well, I won’t divulge too much but I learned a lot on this. It is fun as it has actors, special effects and technology involved to get the full attention of the viewers!

EagleWings Cinematics

ABBEY: Yey, another premium cinema. We booked a pair of Aladdin movie tickets at EagleWings Cinematic (Gold). They only have four halls.

The SGD 30-ticket comes with the use of their lounge where they offer unlimited cold and hot drinks as well as massage chairs to relax before the movie. You can also order food you can eat either in the lounge or to be served at the theater itself. I tried their chef-recommended bacon and egg beef wagyu burger (comes with curly fries) and I have a large cup of Coke Cherry-Vanilla from their soda fountain. The patty is juicy and the cheese melted into it and the fries are crispy. We also had gelato for SGD 2. I can say that my chocolate gelato really is “chocolatey”.

I like to commend the staff as they attended to all our concerns.

WILL: Who loves a dull date? That is the main reason, Abbey and I are always on hunt for something new, something exciting, something that may spark joy! Aside from movie watching in your favourite cinema, why not buy a ticket to experience the comfort of being a royalty.

Welcome to EagleWings Cinematics. Unlike other premium cinema, their gold/platinum ticket will give you an access to their lounge that serves an unlimited cola with around 40 varieties. Ohhh! I will comeback for sure for the vanilla & cherry and coke. They have free massage chairs too! You want hot drinks? They have it for you. Amazing! I ordered Fish and Chips for my dinner.

Inside the cinema hall, it is absolutely clean. No foul odours from the carpet or from the seats. The pillows are soft too. It matches the Aladdin movie! We were served with delight. We were treated like royalties!

Thanks EagleWings Cinematics! Will come back for sure! You are shockingly awesome!

Disney On Ice presents Mickey's Super Celebration 2019

ABBEY: We secured a pair of Disney on Ice ticket for the last day of their show. We will be meeting Mickey and Minnie as well as the princesses so we dressed up for the royalties :)

I’m not suprised that most of the audience are kids. You can see them in Disney Princess costumes while asking their dad and mom to buy souvenirs. Quick bites like hotdogs, sandwiches, and pao are being sold with soda or coffee.

The show is great as the audience participated. You can hear the little voices sung Let It Go with Elsa and the reaction when Rapunzel soared from the ground as if flying. It was fun and I was wowed.

WILL: I saw an ad at MRT station, Singtel posted a promotion for the Disney on Ice and I took that as a sign. Haha! Since Abbey and I do not have an event to do that March, we decided to take that opportunity to see what is happening on that show.

Alighting out of the car, the little ladies were costumed as their favorite Disney princesses. It is enjoyable to watch! Pass the security area, the magic begins! All you can see are big smiles from the children and hallway are abundant of Disney’s souvenirs! Innocent and delightful aura fills up the stadium.

What is thw best part? Of course the stars of the show, Moana and Elsa! I didn’t expect that they can pull off effext like the foubtain at the courtyard, frozen staircase, and fire of Te Ka.

Recommendable activity specially if you are young at heart.

The Prudential Marina Bay Carnival 2019

ABBEY: It got me worried from the time Wilma wrote this activity on our calendar.

Basically I’m just worried about myself. I know it would be fun; lots of people, food and games (they were offering 2 for 1 by the time we go).

I only hopped on one ride: Wave swinger (carousel of swings) and that’s it. My head spun the whole time I’m on the carnival and sweat all over. Hahaha.

But I do enjoy the game of Can Blaster even though I didn’t topple them all. Still a good aim after all my dizziness. I just enjoyed being at the carnival.

WILL: Prudential Marina Bay Carnival is here again! Abbey really want to come here last year, but our schedule is pretty tight. Now, 2019, we really did make a time for it. Hehe.

It is free entry and offers a 1-for-1 ride! A good opportunity! Abbey is not so good in this kind of activities, and I somewhat pushed him to his limits. Thank you for trying Baby. Ha!Ha! Abbey and I rode the Family-Friendly Wave Swinger, which really made me somewhat dizzy. Sign of ageing, haha.

I accompanied Shane at Mach 5. It is definitely marvellous to see Marina Bay from the top. When the ride starts to move, I feel the sweet rush of air against my face. I released all the tension by screaming with my full effort. Haha. A good way to de-stress! Harhar!

A really different experience from USS. A fun night! Thanks for the promotion Prudential.

K.STAR Karaoke

ABBEY: What a way to celebrate Chinese New Year is to welcome it with songs. That’s why we booked a karaoke room at K.Star Karaoke at Orchard Central.

For 2 hours we tirelessly “belted” our favorite songs and also to catch up with Chat and Shaine. Some items in our repertoire came from Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, John Legend, Avril Lavigne, BlackPink, Rihanna and read this: Backstreet Boys. It was full of fun and laughters. Till the next concert.

World Cleanup Day - 15 September 2018

ABBEY: We invested our time to volunteer in World Clean Up Day. The venue is at Pasir Ris. The task is to pick up the trash at the beach and park.

But before that, the organizers gave us a talk about why are we doing it and divided us in groups.

We also did some stretching and breathing exercises.
Most of the items we found are cigarettes butts, straws, fishing lines and nets. Other volunteers even got a tire. In total we collected more than 300 kilos of trash. It was a good experience and eye-opener activity.

World Cleanup Day -  (15 September 2018)
Organizer: Guardians of Mother Earth

WILL: Thanks to the new work schedule of Abbey, we can now go together for volunteering events.

World Cleanup Day is Abbey and I’s first cleanup event that we attended. Such an honour to be part of a world advocacy to tidy-up not only the land but also the shores of the earth.

Largest number I got are cigarette butts and small pieces of styrofoam. I felt sorry for sea creatures, we literally messed-up their ecosystem. Imagine, they are eating the humans’ garbage.

That day will never be enough to save the ocean but it will be a good start of awareness to the humanity. Thanks Guardians of Mother Earth Singapore for organising this. Will look forward on next mission like this.

Sentosa Sandsation: MARVEL Edition 2018

ABBEY: Video Blog

WILL: Abbey prefer to stay at home or just jog around Punggol, so if he asked me to go out for us to see or experience something..oh well! I better say Yes!

Abbey wants to see the sand sculptures at Sentosa. On this year's theme is Marvel Super Heroes.

We want there after his office hour. Hey! The Sentosa Express is free and there is a intelligent idea for people to walk... what is it? Trams are not available from Beach Station to Siloso Beach. Haha! Anyways, you will enjoy the sights of well-crafted trees and the breeze of the sea.

The sculptures are humongous! It is like they are presenting the powers of each characters. Thanos is absolutely magnificent. Thor's display not only his face but also the Asgard! Iron Man showed the power of Arc Reactor in his chest!

After the Marvelous Marvel Characters. There are sculptures that displays the real life heroes. Love to see how beautifully represent the mothers.

Till next Sandsation!

TEDx NTU 2018: Greater than the Sum of its Parts

ABBEY: This is the second TEDx conducted by NTU that I attended. The theme is “Greater than the sum of its parts”. That is true as the each speaker speech and their passion is really greater than all of them.

I really learned from Jingmei Li; the cancer detective. The famous question : Are your curing cancer? was answered with “We’re getting there” is a positive assurance that someone is doing something.
Daniel Teh is having more than 80% of his workforce comprise of people with special needs. Not that he wants sympathy but empathy to his employees.

And who would forget about the fairytale story of Violet (relationship manager)? She stressed that better connectivity is being done offline and not online.

Kudos to TEDxNTU organizers for the successful event. The program, logistics, and food is getting better and better.

TEDx NTU 2018: Greater than the Sum of its Parts

WILL: Why would I love to watch TEDx? It is somewhat giving us a piece of the speaker's brain and their daily lives. Isn't it facinating? They are wrapping up the piece of their lives in few minutes!

Cancer as all you know gave a devastating news for every family who is affected. Well, Abbey and I are not exempted on that. We felt glad that there people really dedicating their lives to study this cancer disease. Thanks Jingmei Li.

Food rescuer, Daniel Tay, I do hope that it open up some minds that we are not only throwing away rubbish but we are throwing away tons of good food just to maintain the "quality" looking one in the grocery stores.

Who will not be touched of Violet's story? Yes it is quite fad but the reality in every love story is that we are not living inside any social media. We must go out and get to know more the people we are dating.

Oh one more! The former gangster, Daniel Teh, that helps people to come-up on ways in encouraging his staffs and lifting them up!

Till the next TEDx! Thanks again NTU!

The Lion King at Marina Bay Sands

ABBEY: We bought our Lion King tickets as a birthday gift to Wilma last April. But we only saw the production on August. I was surprised how they portray the animals. It was creative; the giraffe, cheetah, birds, hyenas, and the lions.

What I liked the most are the Circle of Life and I Just Can’t Wait to be King. Timon, Pumbaa and Zazu gave more life to it.

The crowd laughed when the pride was mourning for Mufasa. You watch the you’ll know.

WILL: Warning!!!

I do not want to defame Lion King and even I am not an expert in reviewing musicals/plays. I want to say that Lion King do not deserve my time. I am sorry to say that I felt that I wasted money. Argghh!

Ok. One by one! Props seems lacking. There's no wow factor on the lead actors. The used to be climax of the story seems not emphasised and what more? Some jokes are not connecting with the audiences. Oh! Even the sad times! I can't feel the love that night! I am yawning at times and wishing to end the play immediately.

Of all the plays I have watched, this is boring.
