ABBEY: We invested our time to volunteer in World Clean Up Day. The venue is at Pasir Ris. The task is to pick up the trash at the beach and park.
But before that, the organizers gave us a talk about why are we doing it and divided us in groups.
We also did some stretching and breathing exercises.
Most of the items we found are cigarettes butts, straws, fishing lines and nets. Other volunteers even got a tire. In total we collected more than 300 kilos of trash. It was a good experience and eye-opener activity.
WILL: Thanks to the new work schedule of Abbey, we can now go together for volunteering events.
World Cleanup Day - (15 September 2018)
Organizer: Guardians of Mother Earth
World Cleanup Day is Abbey and I’s first cleanup event that we attended. Such an honour to be part of a world advocacy to tidy-up not only the land but also the shores of the earth.
Largest number I got are cigarette butts and small pieces of styrofoam. I felt sorry for sea creatures, we literally messed-up their ecosystem. Imagine, they are eating the humans’ garbage.
That day will never be enough to save the ocean but it will be a good start of awareness to the humanity. Thanks Guardians of Mother Earth Singapore for organising this. Will look forward on next mission like this.
