Singapore Zam Zam - Famous Murtabak in Singapore

ABBEY: Singapore Zam Zam is a famous restaurant in Arab Street. You won’t miss it if you go there; it’s always packed and some staff are outside the place just to invite diners to come in. I ordered one of the item they were known for: murtabak. I got chicken and sardine.

They are full of flavor and not that spicy. One serving is for sharing so bring a friend.

WILL: Looking for a luscious Indian meal? Be practical and head to the one and only Singapore ZamZam. Oh, you won’t spend too much in here! You do not need to.

I ordered a vegetarian mee goreng and sardine murtabak. The sardine murtabak injected joy in me. The bread is thin, bit crispy and suits with fish curry sauce. Mee goreng filled up my tummy. Spiciness is delicate.

Definitely recommended! A 10-min walk from Bugis MRT.

South Indian Lemon Rice and Chicken Chop

VERDICT
WILL: Abbey is always telling me that I bring happiness in him. Eeee, sweet! He knew that one thing that makes me happy is a tasty and nutritious food.

So here you go..Lemon Rice with Chicken Chop.

Lemon Rice is not that sour as you think, it is just a hint of it. Add up the mustard seed and curry rice, whew, and it bombastic aroma and flavour.

Abbey partnered this yummy Indian rice with boneless chicken chop. Crispy and the coating is savory.

~ Are you aware that Abbey deboned the chicken meat himself? Yep! Talented husband! Haha ~

Egg Curry and Raita - Easy Simple Indian Recipe

It would take time and effort to truly cook curry from scratch and those two are not on my side since Wilma is requesting for it. Not that I just bought from a hawker stall but cooked it with some “cheats”.

Curry Ingredients:
Cooked basmati rice (lessen the portion of water when cooking as it will absorb the curry later)
A packet of curry masala
Onion (cubed)
Tomatoes (cubed)
Garlic
Coriander leaves
Curry leaves
Hard-boiled eggs

Raita Ingredients:
Half pint of curd (natural yogurt)
1 medium onion (cubed)
1 green chili (chopped)
Coriander leaves
Cumin powder
Salt

Curry:
Sauté onion, then garlic, then tomatoes and curry leaves. Dissolve the packet of curry masala on water. Once the tomatoes are soft, mix in the curry masala. Have it boil for a couple of minutes until it is thick.
The technique is layering.
In a pot, spread a scoopful of curry. Then top it with rice. Repeat until all are mixed. Top with coriander leaves and egg.

Raita:
Peel the onion then wash it.
Cut into cubes and soak in water while you chop the green chili. Soaking the onion in water will reduce the strong flavor of onion and amplify its sweetness.
Mixed chili into the curd, strain the onion from the water and put into the curd.
Put chopped coriander leaves.
Add cumin powder and salt to your preference.
Best to do it the day before you cook the curry.

Egg Curry and Raita

VERDICT
WILL: If you are not fond of chicken or mutton, try to cook an egg curry. Cheaper alternative for the expensive meats.

Glad that Abbey loves to cook and do not stop trying until his dishes are accurately delectable.

Raita is what I can say a healthy version for gravy. Abbey perfected doing it that I can eat raita and rice for the rest of my life. Haha.

Oh my! Cook this and impress your friends.

Sakunthala's Restaurant at Syed Alwi Road

ABBEY: We got hungry after our “shopping spree” at Mustafa.

We went at Sakunthala's and had our dinner. I got egg briyani for SGD8.50. It came with an enormous serving of briyani rice , two eggs and papads. What can I say? The meal is delicious, aromatic and full of flavor.

I’ll come back for more.

Sakunthala's Restaurant at Syed Alwi Road

WILL: After redeeming our new "walk-counter" at Health Promotion Board HQ, we headed to Mustafa. After our haul at 24hours mall, we went for a dinner at Sakunthala.

Why we chose Sakunthala? There's a lot of people (Indiands and Foreigners) dining inside and outside the restaurant, that is the sign that they offer something spectacular.

For days, I am craving for Biryani. Something spicy. I ordered for fish Briyani for $11.00. It comes up with a huge serving of rice, a piece of fish meat, an egg, bowl of curry, chunck of raita and of course a papadum.

The taste? Oh! Absolutely Biryani. Not just a coloring that you can see on some stalls inside mall outlets. Haha! The spices are deeply engraved in every grains of basmati rice. The fish is tender. I ended up finishing all of it, except the egg (which I pass to Abbey). Imagine how big my tummy is. Haha!

Now I am wondering where is the next Indian Restaurant we should eat. :) any suggestions?

Chop Chop Biryani & Meats (Roasted Pork and Squid With Biryani?) At Amoy Street Food Centre

ABBEY: I like briyani rice but sometimes it would be monotonous if the same old chicken or mutton will be there along with the rice. Enter Chop Chop Biryani & Meats.

This shop serves briyani rice but with your preferred meats. Choices are pork (yes pork), beef, squid, and chicken. A meal with 2 meats and pineapple salsa will be 6.50SGD. I got char siew and pork masala with my rice. It was delicious: the spiciness of Indian rice topped with Chinese food.

Wow, perfect for lunch or dinner.

WILL: Abbey do not waste time to spend moments with me. Yes! A+ for his efforts. After his visit to the doctor, he dropped by to our office with a Chop Chop takeaway in hand. Thank you.

He had Blur Sotong for me. This is a dream come true. Pork/Squid with briyani rice! The squid's spicy sauce is overwhelming for me. But I can't stop myself eating those. Haha! I got in touch with Abbey's pork. It is tender and perfectly blended with the briyani rice.

Thank you Chop Chop for this food 'innovation'! Love it!

Sankranti (Everyday Festival) - Fine Dining @ Changi Business Park

ABBEY: In search of great-tasting briyani, my colleague told me about Sankranti.

They have a branch at Plaza 8 (Changi Business Park). I had chicken briyani. It comes with raita and gravy and two big pieces of chicken. It is delicious. I got a take-away for Wilma so she can taste the food treasure that I discover. She liked it and finally we dined there after meeting with the Philippine President Duterte.

It doesn't come cheap (~12SGD) but worth it.

WILL: If you have tasted Sankranti's Briyani, you may ask yourself "Am I only eating colored rice for the past few years just to be called 'briyani'?" Of course Bismillah is an exception. Ha!

I will rate Sankrati's Briyani to be one of the best in Singapore. It is located at Changi and just steps away at Abbey's office. When I crave for Indian cuisine, he make sure to buy some this for me.

The spiciness is bearable and you can buy vegetarian version of it. Do not forget to top your ooozing curried rice with its tasty yogurt!

Before I forget, they are quite pricey. That is the only thing I can say in the negative side.

Banana Leaf Apolo – Since 1974 (Little India)

ABBEY: Before heading to LTA Gallery for our visit, we had our lunch first at Banana Leaf restaurant at Race Course Road.

The place was almost full and the staffs were busy attending to guests need. We placed our order via their interactive menu (iPad). Since it was packed, the order was delayed for a couple of minutes. Good thing the soda came early.

I had chicken briyani. For the price, the serving is small compared to other Indian restaurant I've been but it is full of flavor. We also had another bowl of papadum for 2SGD. I think the restaurant will appeal mostly to foreigners and visitors of Singapore.

WILL: After my Saturday work, we took our lunch at Banana Leaf Apolo. It is one of the most popular Indian Cuisine Restaurant in Singapore. But the question, is it the best?

All seats are almost occupied when we reached around 1:30PM. Not more than 10 minutes when they guided us to our seat. 15 minutes after we gave our orders, the food was served.

Anything special on their food? As my memory and taste buds serves me right..none. Maybe it is famous because it is one of the oldest/first.

'Till our next food hunt! Thanks for visiting our blog!

Bismillah Biryani Restaurant

ABBEY: My boss told me that Bismilah Briyani is the best briyani there is. So from that on, I plan to have an order of that rice delight. It happened after we went to Sim Lim Square to buy my latest toy. So we crossed Rochor Canal Road and headed to the shop at the intersection of Dunlop street and Perak road.

We got 2 chicken briyani for 16 SGD. Even though it is raining that day, I still bought a stick of kulfi (ice cream on stick). It was creamy and sweet. I'm not able to finish the srving of briyani. It has 2 cuts of chicken and a hard boiled egg. It is spicy but you can cool it down with the raita that comes with it. The rice is not also oily which is very different from other briyani that I had. You can eat it on its own even without gravy.

Next time I'll try mutton and vegetarian variations.

WILL: Abbey is succumbed in addiction with Indian Cuisines. He is always up in searching the best of the best around here in Singapore. So, do you wonder where are those food? Of course, you can find those at Little India.

After we bought his new GoPro stabilizer at Sim Lim Square we walked straight to Bismillah Briyani. While waiting for Abbey's order, one man started a conversation with me. He informed us that many Filipinos working at Singapore Gen that dines at their restaurant. As our talk goes by, I felt that he is the owner of the restaurant. Haha! Then I dropped a bomb question, "Why you put 'probably the best briyani' on your banner?" And outstanding answer was replied. It is because the word 'probably' represents that he is up and ready for changes and improvements of his famous briyani. Few minutes of talk and laughs make my husband and my day more colorful. ;)

When we went home we're ready for the taste test. After I consume a portion of it, I asked Abbey when we will visit the store again? Their briyani is awesome, it is not that spicy and not oily unlike others. It is indeed a yummy experience.

Will surely be going to back to this store. Wohhhooo!!

Indian Buffet Dinner at Grand Empire Restaurant - Grand Imperial Hotel

ABBEY: My manager and a colleague had decided to have a career move. So as farewell, we planned for a dinner. We booked at Grand Empire at Grand Imperial Hotel. It was on the top storey where the pool also is located. It was a buffet for 19.90SGD per person from Gropoun Deal.

Vegan and non vegan choices were available. As appetizer, they serve samosa and tandoori chicken. We also had butter chicken and mutton. I ate them with naan and briyani rice. That's all I had. Got no time for others. Sodas, coffees and teas are bottomless.

Maybe for my Indian friends the food is not that good, but it satisfied my cravings for Indian food.

WILL: Up to the front, I will tell you that there is not so much varieties of food that you can choose from. But...

Yep! A big BUT haha. I enjoyed personally their crispy ladyfinger, the saffron rice, of course their spicy tandoori chicken. I love the place as it gave a relaxing mood despite my husband's big bosses were around.

This is a good place to held an event.

Prata Wala - Bedok Mall Branch

ABBEY: It was past lunchtime when we finish our visit at Changi Naval Base. We dined in Prata Wala at Bedok Mall.

Wow, they have fried chicken biryani rice set for 7.50SGD; veggie strips, fried chicken, big serving of briyani rice and pappadum. It was delicious, spicy, and hot. We also have an order of naan and extra pappadums to complete our sumptuous lunch.

WILL: Indian cuisines were either be seen at hawkers or at stand-alone restaurants. Well, this Prata Wala reached out to be a fast-food-like theme.

Prata Wala is well-known for its, of course, pratas. But that time due to a growling tummy we adhere to our decision of taking rice than pratas in our mains and naan at the side.

I got buttered chicken. It is delicious. I even asked for mint sauce to elevate more the richness of its flavors. Naan is on its usual taste.

Next time, we will back to try their pratas. :)

Dinner Buffet at Riverwalk Tandoor (20 Upper Circular Rd Branch)

ABBEY: I've been here a couple of times but this is the only time I got to write up for Riverwalk Tandoor as this is time I dined there with my wife. Others occassions are with my colleagues.

In here, I got my favorite chicken tandoor. Partner them with mint chutney or briyani rice and it is heaven. Pappadums are endless. I think I ate 5-6 bowls of it. Order a serving of freshly made butter or plain naan and dip in their chicken or mutton curry. I'm drooling while writing this. They also have menu for vegetarian and have dessert as well (wow, gulab jamun).

The restaurant is located at 20 Upper Circular Road, B1-38 The Riverwalk. Dinner buffet costs 19.90++ (Mon-Thurs) and 20.90++ (Fri-Sun). Check their site for promotions and other prices.

WILL: Abbey have been for a number of times due to official meetings. Well, if he can tag me along why not. But on those instances I cannot go with him. So on the day that he want to make a farewell to one of his colleague he chose to celebrate it in Riverwalk Tandoor.

It is just beside the MoM at Clarke Quay. It's dinner on a Monday we do not expect it to be full but all the seats were occupied around 7pm. Good thing we made a reservation.

I love the most is their Tandoori Chicken that i smothered the mint sauce and ate it with their biryani rice. I can't remember how many times I went back to buffet table for papadum. Why? Their papadum is not oily but still crunchy. I love it!
Abbey's colleague is picky in food but this restaurant made her full. It only means that Riverwalk Tandoor has delectable menu. Cheers!

Taste Of India - Singapore

ABBEY: I don't know which Taste of India did I went to the first time, but the branch that I visited recently is on 96 Owen Road (nearest MRT is Farrer Park). This is where my colleague planned to celebrate his daughter's first birthday.

The menu is consisted of vegetable cutlet, briyani rice, sweet and sour fish fillets, aloo gobi, chicken curry and soups and sauce. They also served plain and naan with onion chives. Wilma's favourite papadum is there as well.

I think I went for three rounds until I can't take the spiciness anymore :) We washed down the food with milk tea, water and coke.

WILL: We were invited by husband’s colleague to attend the 1st Birthday Party of their daughter Annika and we are really grateful that we were included in their guests list. It feels like that we matters. Ha!

I am inch by inch embracing the aroma and spiciness of different curries. So here am I indulging on the Indian food at Taste of India.

As accustomed, after the Happy Birthday was sang, we hit the buffet table. I love papadum so I do not hesitated to get a lot of it. Their vegetable cutlet is yummy. The naan is just an ordinary but their when dipped it to the sauce of curry chicken everything turns extra-ordinary. Grace is so happy that they served teh-c.

They cannot avoid to talk about their jobs so I am just there listening and laughing to all the jokes thrown to each other.

Thanks Falguni. You made me full and sleepy. :)

ROTI - Alka's Kitchen (Asian Fusion & Vegan Restaurant)

ABBEY: First we got free mini wraps delivered by Chef Alka herself to advertise her roti prata on offices. Next we got a 7-dollar voucher. So we visited their place at West Coast Plaza.

Since I got hooked on chicken tikka, I ordered the big serving; 8-inch chicken tikka roti wrap. The wrap is crunchy, chicken is delicious and vegetables are fresh. A can of Thumbs Up soda completed the meal.

Room of improvement would be if the staff can smile more and receive the guests warmly.

WILL: Do yo like an Indian version  of Subway? Better check out Roti Alka's Kitchen at B1 of West Coast plaza.

Another discovery! I saw them when they threw an announcement in facebook for free wraps on their first anniversary. I hope we can go but yes, we were trapped to our usual toil. And the good Chef Alka broadcasted free wraps with free delivery to our respective offices. Never wasted a second, I phoned them and booked for 30pcs. OMG! The delivered more than that and even our drivers have the chance to taste it too.

Abbey got a  free $7 voucher, we redeemed it at their branch and that I the correct way to order their wraps.

1. Choose the wrap.
2. Sauce
3. Extras
4. Fillings
5. Salad
6. Make it a meal by adding few dollars.

I had the Mixed Grilled Wrap. It tasted the same when it first my tastebuds. Haha! Lovely!

A very nice experience.

Indian Curry House - Delivery by Foodpanda Singapore

ABBEY: What if you're craving for food but don't know which one is it? Try Food Panda (foodpanda.sg). They will list cuisines/restaurants available in Singapore and from there you can narrow down your search.

We've tried its services and we took order on Indian Curry House. We got chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, and naan (plain, garlic, and kheema). They told us that our food will be delivered by 12:30pm but they were 30 minutes early. The food is hot and "hot". It got me sweating as I munch on naan with chicken tikka. But it doesn't stop me in getting a plate of rice and indulge on the spiciness of the food.

Food Panda is recommendable if you want to have variety of choices. Order on their website or thru their phone app.

WILL:  When we received an email from Foodpanda Singapore, I was so surprised, excited and kind of worried for this is our first sponsored review. I asked my husband, what if I do not like the taste? What if the delivery service fails my expectation? So many what ifs and then 10th of April, without any alert given to Foodpanda, we ordered lunch at Indian Curry House.

930am I woke up and checkout foodpanda website. The restaurants were still close, and the fascinating fact is we can pre-order and choose what time we want for them to deliver the food. I put 1130am just in time for our lunch. We received an email for confirmation and a call that they will be late for an hour, we are willing to wait. Our cravings for Indian Cuisine is really kicking in.

12pm the food arrived, earlier than we expected. After a prayer and some shots, we ate like a caveman. Haha! I love their Garlic Naan dipped in to Chicken Tikka Masala sauce. Its a perfect tandem. The samosa stands-out for its sour after taste.

Going back to FoodPanda service, they have all types of cuisines in a one roof. So you do not need to jump in and off in any other websites just to look for what your tastebuds longing for. In payment, they have 3 options for you.. Pay by cash, paypal and credit card. Nice, isn't it? You can save more by using some of their vouchers(see photo above).

In just a few computer mouse clicks, food will be at your front door.
