$1.90 Bowls?! Kuan Zhai Wan Wan Xiang at Changi City Point — Cheapest Comfort Food You’ll Ever Find!

ABBEY: While exploring Changi City Point, we stumbled upon a Chinese eatery called Kuan Zhai Wan Wan Xiang. And it was quite an unexpected find.

The place operates in a simple, canteen-style setup, somewhat like IKEA’s self-service food hall. You grab a tray, queue up, and choose from a variety of small dishes neatly displayed in mini bowls. It’s quick, casual, and perfect if you love trying a bit of everything.

We picked a few favorites: braised pork with preserved vegetables, mapo tofu, xiao long bao, and shredded chicken noodles. Each order comes with free-flow rice or porridge, which is definitely a plus if you love generous portions.

The mapo tofu stood out for me. It had that authentic Sichuan-style balance of spice and numbing heat from the peppercorns. I actually went for three bowls of rice just to go with it! The braised pork was another highlight, tender and flavorful with just the right amount of savory sweetness.

If there’s one thing I’d suggest, it’s to turn up the steam a little; some of the dishes could be warmer. But overall, it’s a satisfying and affordable meal, with prices ranging from SGD 1.90 to SGD 5.90 per item.

Kuan Zhai Wan Wan Xiang is a great spot if you’re in the East of Singapore and craving authentic, comforting Chinese food without breaking the bank.

WILL: What made me walk straight into this restaurant? The elevated hawker vibe, the super clean and inviting look, and—honestly—the screaming amount of food on display. Bowls starting at SGD1.90 and unlimited porridge or rice for SGD1? That alone made me grab a tray!

Self-serve style pa! It brought back full-on secondary school canteen memories, but with way better food.

My Must-Try Picks
-Mapo Tofu (SGD2.90)
The mala sauce is insane. I could finish one whole cup of rice with just the sauce. Sobrang sarap. No regrets!

-Pork with Preserved Vegetable (SGD3.90)
Huge portion—good for sharing. The pork is tender and super worth its price.

Not My Fave
Pork Xiao Long Bao — dry, so skip this one.

If you love rice (like… A LOT), carbs, and comforting Chinese flavors, you’ll walk out of here smiling and food-happy. Perfect for our protein + carb loading days in The Gentle Reset too.

Go try it! You might end up running to Changi City Point like me.
