Newly Renovated Newton Food Centre Hawker Stalls To Check Out in Singapore

ABBEY: My cousin wants to go where the “Crazy Rich Asians” actors filmed in Singapore. One of them is at Newton Food Centre.

So we ordered chili crab, char kway teow and Hokkien Mee. We finished all the chili crab sauce with fluffy fried man tou. The noodles are firm and flavorful with wok hei and lard. They are all washed down with sugar cane juice. Talk about local. Haha.

WILL: This hawker stall gained additional fame thanks to an appearance in the movie Crazy Rich Asians. Some stalls here have been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand, and that's exactly where we decided to treat our American visitor.

Naturally, we ordered plates of Hokkien Mee and Fried Kway Teow at Newton Old Signboard 25 (#01-25), one of the renowned stalls in the Newton hawker center. And the taste? Exceptional! The chili sauce elevated the flavor of everything - simply delicious!

We couldn't allow Abbey's cousin to leave Singapore without savoring the famous Chili Crab from Alliance Seafood, another Michelin-approved stall in the Newton Hawker Center. The taste? The crab meat practically melted into the sauce, making it unnecessary to crack the shells. Freshly fried mantou buns were the perfect accompaniment to this delectable meal.

Our tummies left highly satisfied. Is this hawker a must-visit? Absolutely! It's another gem to explore, well worth a visit alongside the popular options in Chinatown.

🇸🇬Singapore Teatime Extravaganza ☕️ at L'Espresso Goodwood Park Hotel

ABBEY: We had an afternoon tea buffet at L’ Espresso (Goodwood Park Hotel). They do have scones but not the texture I expected (could have been on the flaky-crumbly side). Open and petite sandwiches were also available along with choices of cheese and dried fruits.

We got to try local foods like chili crab, satays, spring rolls, prata with chicken curry, shrimp dimsum and siew mai. I went for multiple servings of beef from the carving station as well as their beef stew.

Their durian crepe is a must have which is not too overpowering. And for dessert I had a plateful of truffles (dark, white, and milk) and fruits. Our supposed to be 3PM tea time was moved to 12NN. More time for us to enjoy delicious food.

WILL: If you're searching for the best tea time buffet in Singapore, you'll undoubtedly come across Goodwood Park Hotel's offering. L’Espresso restaurant is situated in their lobby, right next to a veranda with a lovely view of greenery. The furnishings are so inviting that you'll feel as if you're visiting a friend's house, invited for a coffee or tea and sharing laughter.

Now, how was the food? It was superb. They offer steamed dim sum, chili crab with mantou, croissants, an array of cheeses and crackers, and delightful macarons and chocolate truffles! I was somewhat disappointed with the texture of their scones, which didn't quite measure up to those served in other hotel restaurants.

I recommend giving it a try, although it's not an absolute must-visit. However, this is one of the more affordable tea time buffets you can find here in Singapore.

🇸🇬ATLAS Bar's: A Glimpse into Award Winning Excellence | World's Best Bar & Top 10 Bas in Asia

ABBEY: There are multiple instances we planned to go to Atlas Bar but didn’t happen. “At-las” we’re able to dine in there as walk-ins when my cousin visited us in Singapore.

After a 45-minute wait we had our table. I got the spaghetti. It was divine. The bisque is not too sweet nor sour. Perfect with the cherry tomatoes, zucchini, basil, chili and prawn. From the bar I had the ATLAS espresso martini. It has cream which makes it frothy. Thumbs up for the coffee and vodka combination.

WILL: Atlas Bar is one of the best bars in Asia, and it's no wonder why Westworld shot some of their scenes here. The intricate architecture showcases glistening marble and brass designs, making it feel as if you've been transported to another era. Oh, don't forget to book two months in advance or brace yourself for a walk-in queue as they are in high demand.

They wouldn't have earned recognition as one of the World's Best Bars if their food was subpar, right? Well, their lunch menu won't disappoint. The menu selection is extensive, offering everything from pork to beef to pasta. I ordered the pork, and the meat was tender, while the mashed potato was the best I've ever had. Haha. The price point is quite reasonable for a well-known restaurant.

This place is especially recommended for tourists who appreciate design, architecture, and a bit of midday indulgence in boozy beverages. Haha!

ABBEY: We’ve been here multiple times and I can say that it is one of our go to places for caffeine fix before grocery or after a meal. I got kopi and sometimes their kaya toast set.

They also have other hot meals like laksa, mee siam, yong tau foo, chee cheong fun and siew mai. Specialty teas include honey lemon, honey lime and gula melaka.

WILL: It is fun in Fun Toast. Haha! Well, if you want an air-conditioned cafe that serves delicious kopi or yuan yang, you can definitely head to Fun Toast.

This is our go-to cafe every after our weekly grocery. Coffee is cheap, the cafe is clean and relaxing due to their white interiors, and the staffs are friendly.

I totally recommend this for tourists who wants to experience a local cafe here in Singapore.

Embark on a Flavorful Adventure with Konyo's "Kamayan sa Bukid in Singapore" Buffet!

ABBEY: Imagine going to a province and it’s fiesta. And you can eat as many times as you can. That’s the vibe at Konyo brunch. For SGD 19.9 we enjoyed the lunch platter which includes crackling bagnet, chicken-pork adobo, lumpiang shanghai, pancit canton, tilapia, rice, kangkong, talong and okra. Pair them with kamatis-sibuyas ensalada, spiced toyo-mansi and vinegar and bagoong and you’re set.

We opted selected items only for our second and third servings as we can’t finish another platter. Our Pinoy food cravings were satisfied. We even have kwentuhan (chitchat) with the staff.

Wash them all down with bulalo soup. Wow!

Embark on a Flavorful Adventure with Konyo's "Kamayan sa Bukid in Singapore" Buffet!

WILL: Another month, another buffet. And to celebrate another milestone (Chat’s 15th anniversary in Singapore) we opted to try the pretty infamous Filipino buffet situated in Orchard. Ahmm yes, you have read it right, it is infamous due to some reviews we read in their facebook page. S$19.90 for 4-hour buffet, we braved to try and see for ourselves if the bad reviews are true. Here we go…

Konyo is a bar and only offers lunch every Saturday and Sunday. And we were surprised that their restaurant was not well lit for lunchtime, therefore we requested to move to a table with a good light. Our first platter came pretty fast. Everything tastes good and acceptably oily. Haha. My favourite is their fried tilapia and pork bagnet! Truly perfect for a steaming hot rice! Second order came like a little late and it seems that one of the waiters forgot that we requested food.

We would like to commend Erika for her warm service and we will surely comeback for another affordable and tummy filling buffet.

Experience the Weekday Buffet at Yum Cha: A Dim Sum Delight in Changi Singapore!

ABBEY: Dumpling craving hit us again so we booked a table at Yum Cha Changi for dumpling buffet. The ambiance is like an old Chinese restaurant; quartz tables with wooden chairs.

We immediately ordered a serving of roasted pork, pork ribs with garlic, siew mai, and prawn dumpling. In addition to that we also had mushroom dumplings, shrimp beancurd roll and fresh prawn rice flour roll.

We ate to our hearts’ content. It was great experience as the staff keeps on delivering our food to almost no delays. Just keep eating.

Weekday Buffet at Yum Cha

WILL: Eyeing for this dimsum buffet since pre-covid era. They are significantly located at Changi IT District and their signage is prominently inviting for everyone. But Abbey’s office was relocated at Penang and my desire to dine in Yum Cha faded. But the power of social media emerged and the cravings resurfaced and I booked it for monthly date with Abbey.

So how was it? I want to applaud the people of Yum Cha Changi. The restaurant vibes like a home. Very welcoming and the waitresses make it sure that we are not waiting too long for our food nor drinks. You shouldn’t miss the Crystal Chives Dumpling and Yum Cha Prawn Dumpling.

This is so worth it. Very recommended!
