April's Bakery Singapore - Bangkok's Famous Pie Bakery

ABBEY:  My wife made “lambing” and told me she wants to eat different flavors of pies from April’s Bakery. I really knew she wants it as she even gave me the address of the shop nearest to my office :)

I got the promo “6 for 5” for 10SGD. We had red bean, taro, thai tea, custard, sesame, and the one with fusion of banana.  The fillings are overwhelming and delicious. It is a thin layer of pie with oozing fillings. Wow.

Pair it up with coffee or tea.

WILL: April's Bakery! And even though it is out of his usual way home, he made a big effort just to go to Tampines and get me some of those famous Thai Pastries.

My favourite is Custard Pie. The texture and the taste of custard complements well with my tea. It is a total afternoon delight.

This is a good food for a snack or high tea whenever you have a visitor. Perfect for hot or cold drinks.

Ok now, what are you waiting for? Walk your way to one of the branches of April's Bakery! ;)

Incredible Things To Do In Kuala Lumpur

ABBEY: Here are some of the places we visited for our Kuala Lumpur Trip. For a day tour, wear light and comfortable clothing. Bring water, towel and extra shirt.

Batu Caves
This is our first destination upon arrival at KL. We came in the morning so it’s not that hot yet and the cave give cool breeze. There is also less crowd. You can reach there via KTM Komuter (last stop). Be prepared to go up. It’s not an easy task specially the steps are narrow (or is it just my big feet?). Marvel and take snaps of the rock formation and be respectful of the place. There are shops below for food and souvenirs.

KL Bird Park
For a fee of RM67 per person you can enter the world’s largest walk-in aviary. The birds are accustomed to the visitors and they roam around the park like in the wild. You can see parrots, ibis, peacocks, flamingoes, owls, and ostriches to name a few. Don’t miss the bird show as well. Some birds can be fed with approved food that can be bought on park’s vending machines.

KL City Gallery
An entrance fee of RM10 is required to visit KL City Gallery. But half of the amount can be used as a voucher. When we visited, the gallery exhibits the plans for Malaysia; tall skyscrapers, efficient transportation system but still maintain the greenery of the environment. This can uplift morale of the citizens as they have something to look forward to. They can plan and grab the opportunity to take part of the country’s progress. The ground floor shows the workshop for the miniature buildings. The craftsmen are very talented putting too much details on their work. Adjacent to it is the souvenir shop and a cafe where you can use your vouchers. We had a light snack at Arch Cafe with cheese tart and kopi.

Merdeka Square
The square or plaza is adjacent to the city gallery. In here you can see a huge and tall flagpole waving a big flag of Malaysia. And opposite the street is the Sultan Abdul Samad building which used to be government office in the early years.

Petronas Tower and KLCC Lake Symphony Water Fountain Show
The Petronas Tower is a must-must-see landmark in Kuala Lumpur. Go there by morning or evening and the skyscraper will not disappoint you of its beauty. Be creative and find your sweet spot to take your snaps.
On the evening, go inside KLCC mall and out the other side where you can watch the light and water show at the fountain.

WILL: Every time you will tour an unknown place you will Google "What to do in ---?", right? So here is the answer to that question... What to do in KL ... in one day? We packed it all and tired ourselves in this journey. But we enjoyed every minute of it. Let's go through.

Our first stop is the BATU CAVES. We chose to be there first thing in the morning to avoid huge groups of tourist who arrive by bus. The cave is magnificently arranged. Be careful on the steps, it is steep and some parts our wet. You want to go inside right, who doesn't want it? Girls, wear appropriate clothing, or you can buy sarong on the foot of the stairs. (FREE entrance)

Indulge with birds that freely flies, do not get lost in finding KL BIRD PARK. This is not free, a pricey place to go in KL but this is the largest Free-Flight Walk-In Aviary in the world, why would you skip that? Abbey and I enjoyed how the birds seem to do not care with people roaming around their place. Do not forget to watch their showtimes.

Merdeka Square, almost all of the museums are here and the famous I Love KL slogan of KL City Gallery. We paid MYR10 for entrance at City Gallery but MYR5 was deducted to our snack when we sit and ate at City Gallery's Cafe. I love their tart! Yummy!! Merdeka Square is the home of Tallest Flagpole, a small fountain there was named after Queen Victoria. And some old offices, church and libraries are there too.

We went to Bukit Bintang for dinner but the restaurants are all packed. We just bought some pork siewmai, Abbey get some noodles and coconut ice cream for our dessert.

Next stop, the KLCC Park. The area is full of people watching the water fountain show. (FREE) Be careful, the fountain may splash water to you. :)

Last thing to do in KL. Night Photo Session with the once renowned tallest building the world. The Petronas Twin Tower. Oh man! You cannot find a good spot at night time. We surrendered and came back after our lunch on the next day. And yes! We all have the twin towers all by ourselves. Haha!

KL is a big city, if only our days can permit for a longer vacation, we will stay up to three days. We enjoyed the good and cheap foods.

'Till next time Kuala Lumpur! Thanks to all!

Valentine Roti - Best Roti Canai in KL

ABBEY: There were many recommendations for Valentine Roti as a must-visit place in Kuala Lumpur. So after a few moments of refreshing at Elements Kuala Lumpur, we booked a taxi headed on to the place. It looks like a carinderia (eatery) in the Philippines; open and beside the road.

I got a serving of Valentine Thosai. For (MYR6.00), I had a plate of large thosai and different gravies. It was the same taste as I had tried in Singapore. Then I also had kopi to match.

Beware of the attacking stray cat :)..

WILL: Because Abbey is gaga over Indian Cuisines, we searched and found the best roti canai that travelers and bloggers are talking about. It is Valentine Roti.

Ok, ok! I admit that we made a bad choice when we booked a hotel taxi to go there, it costs us MYR50. Haha! Where it is located? Just 15-minutes walk from the Petronas' Twin Towers. Anyway, here it goes.

It only opens from 530pm till late night, so strike it out for breakfast or lunch. We arrived before 6pm and one by one people are filling up the empty tables.

I went for their famous crispy Roti Canai which costs only MYR1.50. Yep it is totally crispy and they served me 3 kinds of hot vegetarian dips! Oh! Can't take off my hands on it until I finished the 2 pcs.

That is a total value for money. I think the delight on my tastebuds compensated what we'd spend at taxi. (Bloody conscience kicking in).

Visit Valentine Roti! :)
