First Street Teochew Fish Soup - First Branch in Kovan

ABBEY: Another food gem that we found is First Street Teochew Fish Soup. It opens from 8:15AM to 3PM only. Always expect a queue. And for a food stall to have a queue, you know that their items are good. You can choose between rice or noodles for your soup. Their serving of mixed seafood soup is large, delicious and flavorful. They also have batang, pomfret, and snakehead.

WILL: It is always raining nowadays and all we need is a good warm soup that will comfort us on a cold lunchtime. Luckily we are near to one of the most well-known fish soup in Kovan, that is First Street Teochew Fish Soup. Breakfast or lunchtime, be ready to queue for a minimum of 30mins.

So what is the taste? Of course it is delicious! You will know that the fish was boiled for hours that causes their soup’s saltiness were naturally from the fish. They offer different kinds of fish here but I always love to have Mackerel Fish Soup with a cup of rice! Each soup feels like a comfort from a warm a blanket in cold days. Hehe.

If you are along Upper Serangoon or Kovan, please do not miss this legendary fish soup established since 80’s.

Max's All About Chicken Singapore - Your Philippine Inasal Now in Singapore

ABBEY: I lost count of how many times we went to All About Chicken Lucky Plaza. They have so many choices for chicken flavours. But what I like the most is the Inasal as well as the original fried chicken. The marinade permeated to the meat; the smokiness and char from the grill is there. Dip it in spicy soy sauce with calamansi and get a spoonful of rice with chicken oil and you are in for a treat. With fried chicken it is crispy and juicy. The fries that comes with it can be replaced by rice.

Maybe I’ll try chicken teriyaki next time.

WILL: I have found my new favourite fried and grill chicken place! All About Chicken located in Lucky Plaza Basement 1. Yes! This shop is all about chicken rice and they have 8 kinds of flavours. What is the best? They are Chicken Inasal and American Classic Fried Chicken.

Chicken Inasal is famous from the province of Bacolod Philippines. This grilled chicken was marinated with coconut vinegar. Then splash a spoonful of soy sauce, chili oil and kalamansi on your steamy rice! Ohhh. Delicious! Buttery gravy contributes well with the juiciness of American Classic Fried Chicken.

Whenever I went here, I honestly can eat 2 cups of rice. Haha! Definitely worth it. Oh hey! You can order their chicken by buckets.

Paper Rice - Vietnamese Kitchen | Featuring Mekong Specialities

ABBEY: Want some Vietnamese cuisine? Visit Paper Rice. We went at their outlets at Changi City Point and Plaza Singapura. I ordered Grilled Chicken Chop Rice with Egg Meatloaf as well as Pork Bahn Mi. You can really taste the smokiness and char on each bite.

The tanginess and saltiness of the dipping sauce will give a burst of flavour. I also tried hot egg coffee which was delivered by a friendly robot. It is creamy and the caffeine kick is strong.

WILL: We headed for dinner at Paper Rice Vietnamese Kitchen after Abbey’s meetup with colleagues at Changi City Point.

Once you get seated, you will feel at home. Like a visitor to ones home waiting for one of the parents to greet you. Hehe. That’s the vibes in their restaurant. Why? The furniture reminds me of my grandmother’s house in Malabon City. It is antique and colorful. Home that is clean and full of happiness.

Okay let’s go for the food review. The food serving is huge. As in really huge. You may not feel the authenticity of Vietnamese cuisine here because it seems fusioned with modern era. Haha. Like their Deep Fried Vegetarian Spring Roll. It was not wrapped into an ordinary spring roll wrapper or white paper rice. Then my Pork Noodle Soup didn’t possessed a strong coriander scent. Maybe a plus for some but a quite a downside for me. Because I love coriander hehe.

Will surely be back for their hot egg milk coffee and hot refreshing tea.
